News from Mayo

Congratulations to the following members of the Mayo Radio Experimenters Network on their new Callsigns:-

The Mayo Radio Experimenters Network will hold their Annual General Meeting in The Wishing Well Ballyvary on Wednesday next October the 6th at 9.00 pm. All are welcome to attend.

Their September meeting was preceded by an Extraordinary General Meeting, convened to amend the constitution. The changes provided for full membership of the Group to residents outside Mayo and the presentation of awards to members. The club now has members in Mayo Galway, Sligo and Roscommon and under the original rules, only Mayo residents could enjoy full membership of the club. The club has also voted to introduce awards for its members for exceptional service to the club and the hobby.

Plans are at an advanced stage for the switching on of the club's two metre voice repeater, which is due to take place soon. The Repeater will be located outside Kiltimagh and will give good coverage of the county.

Twenty two members of the Club travelled to the Donegal Rally and a number were successful in the CW examinations held there. The club ran a bus to the Cork Rally with fifteen members travelling to Blarney.

The Mayo Radio Experimenters have been very active in contests this year, taking part in VHF Field Day, Two Metres Counties Contest, SSB Field Day and the IOTA Contest from Clare Island.


Limerick Radio Club

Limerick Radio Club will resume its club nights on Thursday week October the 14th in the Institute of Technology, Moylish, Limerick, at 2000Hrs. All members are urged to attend as the programme for the coming year is the main item on the agenda.

Of course anybody interested in any aspect of radio is invited to attend.

LRC will hold its first committee meeting of the year at the QTH of Tony EI2AW at 2000Hrs on Wednesday next the 6th of October.

All committee members are requested to attend.


Sponsored Studentships

The Networks and Telecommunications Research Group at Trinity College Dublin will shortly be starting a number of research projects to design future flexible radio networks for voice and data.

They are offering a number of sponsored studentships for graduates of Engineering and/or Computer Science with a strong interest in Radio, Radio Software, Internet and mobility technologies.


Cork Radio Club Rally

The annual Cork rally, held in the Blarney Park Hotel last weekend, was once again a great success. A fine crowd turned out on the day and traders were very happy with the volume of business transacted.

Congratulations to both Hugh O’Leary EI5FTB and Robbie McGowan EI7EPB who were successful with their Morse tests. We look forward to hearing them on the HF bands very soon.


Dates for your Diary

A live demonstration of packet radio, including the WIT Internet ‘wormhole’ and the Packet Cluster, hosted by Tipperary Amateur Radio Group and presented by John EI3DIB, takes place at Raheen House Hotel, Clonmel, at 8pm sharp on next Wednesday October 6th.

There will be a talk-in on S18 (145.450 MHz.)

This years Worked All Britain HF contest will be held on Saturday and Sunday next October the 9th and 10th from 1200 to 1200 utc.

The RSGB International HF and IOTA Convention will be held at the Beaumont Conference Centre, near Windsor, over next weekend, the 8th to the 10th of October.

The Annual Scouts Jamboree On The Air will be held over the weekend 16th and 17th October. Further information from Pat EI9EZ QTHR.

The North Monaghan Hobby Radio and Computer Exhibition will be held this year on Sunday 24th October in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan Town. The Rally will open at 11.30 and run until 16.30. Talk-in will be on S22 between 1000 and 1400.

The North Wales Radio and Electronics Exhibition will take place in Llandudno on 6th and 7th November. All seats on the Fingal Radio Club's minibus to this Exhibition have now been booked.
