The North Dublin Radio Club is located on the ground floor of Chanel College in Coolock Village and remains open during the summer months. Visitors are always welcome to the weekly meetings on Saturday nights. The club is on the air on both HF and VHF with an FT101Z into a full size G5RV on HF and a Yaesu FT221 into a vertical and horizontal rotateable beam on 2 metres. The club also maintains a very comprehensive library for use by members.

CW Field Day

For a change, both propagation and weather conditions were excellent for the CW field day held over last weekend. The East Cork Group EI7M entered the open section from a site in Carrigtwohill and used a tribander at 50 feet plus a remotely tuned centre fed wire for the low bands. They were very happy with a QSO total in excess of 1000. Joe EI7GY entered the contest on his own, operating from the shores of Lough Boderg, in County Leitrim. He ran QRP for the duration and used a 'gel cell' for power. Despite the low power used, he was able to confirm the adage: "if you can hear them, you can work them". The weather was excellent and he found band conditions a good deal better than last year.

Those who travelled included Danny EI6GS, Ken EI4DW, Martin EI8GP, Mickey EI6HY, John EI7IQ and Kevin EI7IM. Three stations were on the air for most of the time and lots of DX was worked. Danny EI6GS read the news in Irish from the island.

Worked All Ireland

Declan EI9HQ and Paddy EI7GK travelled to Kilmore Quay on Saturday last in an attempt to activate the Saltee Islands. Unfortunately, while they made the trip on the ferry, the skipper deemed conditions too rough for a landing on the island. There is no landing stage and personnel and equipment have to be transferred to a small boat for the trip ashore. Declan hopes to have another go at getting on the island in the near future.
