LCARC participated in Engineers week on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th March at the Shannon Aviation Museum. Thanks to a core of eight club members up to 300 pupils, from Clare & Limerick 5th & 6th Primary School classes, were treated to the fascinating world of Amateur Radio including demos of oscilloscopes, signal generators, crystal receivers and the physics of heat, light and sound. Under supervision, some pupils were able to go on air. The club call sign EI4LCR was aired on both days.
The Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club will host the Lough Erne Rally in the SHARE Centre, Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh BT92 0EQ on Sunday 7th June. Antrim & District Amateur Radio Society plan to reactivate GB0GLS for a fourth year on the first Saturday in May, that is Saturday 2nd May 2020. Depending upon conditions they will operate on 80/40/20 and possibly 17 metres using both SSB and CW modes. There will also be limited 2m FM operation for local contacts. The club will be operating between 10:00 to 18:00 hours approximately. Frequencies: CW: 14.057+/- 7.026 +/- 3.556 +/- SSB: On multiple frequencies.
For CW the club will keep the exchange simple to encourage newcomers to the mode. Exchange will be callsign and RST NAME TU. They will be sending at around 20wpm, with adequate spacing.
GB0GLS is a special event station to commemorate the role played by the work of the Radio Security Service in Northern Ireland during WWII, in particular Gilnahirk Listening Station which was manned by the civilian staff of the General Post Office (GPO). All are welcome to listen out for it and QSO with it on the air. Historical information will be available shortly on its QRZ page.
As part of the St Patricks weekend contest this year, members of the IECRO Ireland Radio Club will be taking part in the event. They will be operating on HF, VHF and UHF. Yves F5PRU / 6W1TA in Senegal has been informed by ARTP, the Senegalese Telecom Regulatory Authority, that the new WRC-15 Amateur Secondary Allocation 5351.5 – 5366.5 kHz is now allowed in the country. The IARU Region1 bandplan should be used with a maximum power limit available of 15W EIRP.
Yves has been living in Senegal for 18 months. He is mainly QRV around 5354 kHz in CW mode and sometimes on 5357 kHz FT8 Mode. He lives near Dakar and although he suffers from QRM early evenings, this lessens later on in the night.
Nigel G3TXF will be in Mauritius until 27th March using the callsign 3B8XF. This is Nigel’s fourth time to operate from Mauritius. He will take part in the BERU contest on 14th /15th March, and will concentrate on 80 and 160m during the remainder of his visit. QSLs go via Club Log OQRS and logs will be uploaded to Logbook of The World.
A multi-national DXpedition led by Rune LA7THA will be in Zambia until 15th March. They will use the callsign 9J2LA and be QRV on 160 – 6m on CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8. QSLs go via M0OXO OQRS.
David F8AAN will be active from Rodrigues Island as 3B9AN from 10th – 19th March. He will operate CW only on 80 – 17m. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

IOTA chasers may be interested to know that members of the Russian Robinson Club plan a visit to Wellington Island (SA-032) off the coast of Chile from 12th – 16th March using the callsign XR8RRC. In addition with weather and transport permitting they may be able to spend up to 2 days on Riesco Island (SA-091) around 19th – 21st March on the way back to the mainland. QSL via Club Log OQRS.
