IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 12th February 2017


March Edition Echo Ireland

Clubs are requested to submit news items for publication in the forthcoming March edition of Echo Ireland. Relevant photos are most welcome with captions – names and call-signs please.

Please make a special effort to submit relevant items for publication and let other clubs in Ireland and abroad know what you are doing.

Specialist articles are most welcome for consideration to publish. Please submit text in a word file with photos as separate files. Do not embed photos into article, please.

Closing date is February 15th.


Annual General Meeting 2017, diary date

A date for your diary: the 85th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society will be hosted by the Dundalk Amateur Radio Society over the weekend of 8/9 April 2017, in the Crowne Plaza, Green Park, Dundalk. AGM Dinner tickets are now available to order from www.irts.ie/agm . The website has also been updated will full details about the 2017 IRTS AGM.

IRTS Awards Nominations

Nominations are being sought for "Awards for Services to the Society or to Amateur Radio" and "Awards to IRTS members for other Achievements. Submissions are welcome and should be sent to Jim Holohan EI4HH, Awards Manager. Email holohaj2 /at/ hotmail.com.


South Dublin Radio Club

Classes are continuing for the theory test for the Radio licence at the club and it’s not too late to join. Simply register your interest through the ‘contact us’ section of the website and show up this Tuesday from 8.30pm at the Ballyroan Community Centre on the Marian Road in Rathfarnham in Dublin. Visitors are always welcome to drop by even to have a chat and learn more.

The SDR AGM will take place this year on 28th of February 2017.

EI DX Group

Members of the EI DX Group are pleased to announce details of their forthcoming DXpedition to Nepal. March 8th to 20th will see this 11 man, all Echo India team run up to 5 stations from 80 metres through 10 metres on CW, SSB & Digital.

Nepal is currently number 91 Most Wanted DXCC in the world and an amazing number 31 most wanted in North America. Operating from a QTH at 5,600' above sea level, the team are looking forward to intense pile-ups.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2017 AGM of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday 27th February at 8pm sharp. All members are please asked to attend. New members or anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio or the group are also very welcome to attend.

The CWops Award for Advancing the Art of CW

The purpose of this yearly award is to recognize individuals, groups, or organizations that have made the greatest contribution(s) toward advancing the art or practice of radio communications by Morse code

Nominations may be made by anybody (not limited to CWops members). Nominations should be emailed to <awards /at/ cwops.org> with a copy to <secretary /at/ cwops.org> . In order to be considered, a nomination must be received by April 15, 2017 and include:

Name(s) and call sign(s) (if applicable) of nominee(s), and complete contact information including their postal address(es), email address(es), and telephone number(s).

A detailed explanation supporting nominee qualifications according to the above criteria.

Name, telephone number, email address, and call sign (if applicable) of the person submitting the nomination.


DX News

A team of German operators will be active as XX9D from Macao from 13th until 26th February. They will be on CW, SSB and RTTY with 3 stations active 24/7. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

Tim LW9EOC will be QRV from San Andres Island as 5J0NA. Also with him is Will AA4NC who will sign 5K0N and Ron AA4VK who will be on the air as AA4VK/HK0. San Andres Island counts as NA-033 for the Islands on the Air Award.

Several U.S. operators will travel to Guantanamo Bay from 10th to 24th February. Look for the callsigns KG4WV, KG4AW, KG4DY and KG4ZK.

Alain F5OZC and Sebastien F8DQZ will be in the Los Islands (IOTA ref. AF-051) until 26th February. The Los Islands are off the coast of Guinea in west Africa and the callsign being used is 3XY3D.

A European team will sign VP6EU from Pitcairn Island in the Pacific from 16th February until 5th March. More information can be found on www.pitcairn2017.de


Dundalk Amateur Radio Society - Shacks Photography Competition.

The 1st March 2017 is the closing date for the DARS photography competition. All entries must be submitted by 5pm on that date. As it is a photographic competition emphasis is placed on a quality photograph. Any shack of any size is eligible from EI/GI or SWL stationed within Ireland.

You must email your photograph of no less than 1meg and no more than 3meg in jpeg format to myshack /at/ ei7dar.com

You must submit your shack photo alongside a small monetary fee of €5.

For your convenience you are asked to make the payment through Paypal, at www.ei7dar.com, payment via Postal Order/Bank Draft are also acceptable details issued on receipt of entree.

All entries are also entered for a raffle for a Handheld Radio.
