The death has occurred of Rona (Ro) Doyle EI7CXB on Saturday last 14th May 2016. Funeral took place last Tuesday and burial took place in Shannon Cemetary.

IRTS AGM 2016 – Awards

This week we continue with listing award recipients at the recent AGM held in Limerick.

The Sheila Piper Cup was awarded to Steve Wright EI5DD, President’s Cup awarded to Peter Grant EI4HX, Kevin Freeney Trophy awarded to John Breen EI7BV, EI7IQ National 6 meter Shield and the EI7IQ National 4 Meter Shield both awarded to Tom Cocking EI4DQ.

Cork Radio Club

The Cork Radio Club will continue to hold meetings monthly on the second Wednesday each month at Carrigtwohill Community Centre with a starting time of 8.30pm.

The next confirmed outdoor events for the club are the CW Field Day on the 4th and 5th of June and the summer barbeque to be held in July.

The weekly IRTS Radio News bulletin happens at 8pm every Monday night on the Cork Repeater. Listeners are encouraged to stay on frequency after the bulletin and also to support the Cork Repeater Activity night at 9pm every Thursday.

Anyone interested is invited to call to Carrigtwohill Community Centre on the second Wednesday of any month and further information is available from Dave EI4BZ on 087-6290574 or by emailing ei4bz at eircom dot net.


Dundalk Amateur Radio Society EI7DAR

DARS have organised a Radio Shack Photography Competition. As it is a photography competition, emphasis should be on submitting a quality photograph. Any shack of any size is eligible. The winner will be announced at the IRTS AGM 2017 in Dundalk. Full details of how to enter this competition is available from ei7dar.com.


IRTS QSL Service

The purpose of the QSL Bureau is to facilitate the exchange of QSL cards between IRTS members (including SWLs) and radio amateurs around the world. For more information on the QSL service as provided by IRTS please refer to www.irts.ie/qslinfo


DX News

Paul VK5PAS will operate as VK9PAS from Norfolk Island from 23rd to 30th May. This will coincide with the Wireless Institute of Australia AGM which is being held on Norfolk Island. Other stations expected to be heard are VI9ANZAC, VK9WI and VK9WIA.

Olli OH0XX will activate PZ50X from Suriname during the period 23rd May to 1st June. He will be mainly on CW 160 – 6m. QSL to the home call and logs will be uploaded to Logbook of The World.

Randy WW6RG will be QRV from Diego Garcia Island in the Chagos Archipelago from 25th to 30th May. While there he will sign VQ9RA and be active on 20, 17 and 15m SSB. QSL to the home call.

Prefix hunters should look for the special event station being operated by the Radio Club des Ardennes until 21 June. The callsign is OS101AB and commemorates the 101st Airborne Division action during the Battle of the Bulge in World War 2. QSLs can be sent via the Belgian QSL Bureau.


IRTS Technical Panel

The IRTS Technical Panel is a group of volunteers who have expertise in, or experience of, different aspects of amateur radio. Our aim is to help radio amateurs with technical or operational problems.

Send your questions to irtstech /at/ irts.ie. Provide as much information as possible, including details of attempts already made to deal with the issue in question. Your query will be distributed to all the members of the Technical Panel and the resolution to the query e-mailed to you.


IRTS Members Records

Now that Ireland has a new postcode, IRTS members are requested to email their new postcode to memrecords /at/ irts.ie. It’s important to update your details with the membership officer especially if you have recently changed address.
