Silent Key – Noel EI4HXB

The death has occurred of Noel Doherty EI4HXB, Kilmore, Kilcock, County Meath, on Thursday 11th February 2016. Noel had a life long interest in amateur radio and in recent times secured his callsign. He was regular attendee at the Coolmine Rally throughout the years.

Burial took place on Sunday February 14th to Moynalvey Church Cemetary.

May he rest in peace.


IRTS AGM 2016

Limerick Radio Club will host the 84th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society over the weekend of 9th & 10th April 2016. The venue will be the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Ennis Road, Limerick.

There are 4 Workshop Talks arranged for Saturday 9th April. The talks are free and start at 2pm sharp. Everyone is welcome.

Tickets for the Dinner on Saturday night 9th April, (7.30 for 8.00pm) cost €35 each and are available from Tony EI2AW QTHR Golf Links Road, Castletroy, Limerick.

80 Metres Evening Contest

A final reminder that the latest date for submitting logs for the recent 80 metres counties contest is Tuesday next, 23rd February. Even if you had only a few QSOs, Joe EI7GY the contest manager would like to receive your log, to assist in the cross-checking process. Logs should be sent to contestmanager /at/ irts.ie


Dundalk Amateur Radio Society - 2m Handheld Raffle.

The Dundalk Amateur Radio Society will hold a draw for a brand new MYT-Q1V - VHF, 136MHz to 174MHz 2m FM Handheld radio.

To be included in the draw you must make a donation to Dundalk Amateur Radio Society. You can make a donation on a club night or online via the donate button on the EI7DAR web page www.ei7dar.com More details available on the website.

The draw will run until midnight on Sunday 3rd April. The draw will take place at the IRTS AGM in Limerick on Sunday 10th April. This draw is open to anyone in Ireland, north or south.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2016 AGM of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place on Monday 29th February 2016 at 8pm sharp, in the Roanmore Social & Sports Club, Cleaboy Road, Waterford.

All members are asked to attend and new members are very welcome

There was a very good attendance at the Limerick Radio Club AGM on Thursday the 11th February 2016. Dermot EI2GT has stepped down from the committee.

KARG Annual General Meeting 2016

The AGM of the KARG will be held on Saturday 27th February, at the Presentation School Sports Hall at 11am sharp. As usual all members should attend and non-members are also very welcome to attend. At the AGM the schedule of KARG events for 2016 will also be announced including local public events,


DX News

Ismo OH2IS will be spending a few days in Antigua from 21 February until 4th March. He will be mainly on CW using the callsign V26IS. QSL via his home call or ClubLog OQRS.

Another visitor to the Caribbean during the coming week is Thaire W2APF who will be active as V47JR from Nevis Island. He will be there from 22nd February to 1st March using a Buddipole and wire antennas on SSB and CW.

Bruno HB9BEI will be QRV from Sao Tome & Principe Islands off the west coast of Africa from 25th February to 24th March. He has applied for the callsign S9BK and plans to be active from the IOTA references AF-023 and AF-044.

Prefix hunters may be interested in the special event station ZV451RIO which will be on the air from 22nd February to 6th March. This station celebrates the 451st anniversary of the foundation of Rio de Janeiro. QSLs go via PY1AA.


IARU Region 1 Interim Meetings

Interim meetings of IARU Region 1 Committee 4, will take place in Vienna, 15th to 17th April 2016. Committees 4 and 5 address spectrum management, band-planning and operational activities such as IARU-R1 contest rules and associated matters.

Amateur licensees in Ireland are encouraged to review the documents submitted and provide comments to the IRTS representatives who will attend the meetings. An overview of the documents is provided on the IRTS web-site at www.irts.ie/iaru-vienna

Also provided are full details of where to download the documents and how to comment. Please provide any comments you may have by 29th February 2016."


Return of Cups and Trophies

Jim Holohan EI4HH Awards Manager, requests that the 2015 Cup and Trophy award holders return their awards as soon as possible, this makes it much easier for the Awards Committee to prepare them for the new recipients at the AGM 2016 awards ceremony in Limerick. Cups and Trophies can be returned to any IRTS Committee Member. www.irts.ie
