The Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio in Howth will be open every day during Science Week, November 10-17, from 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is FREE on every day.
Radio theory classes in preparation for the next Amateur Station License will begin in January 2014. The classes will be held in Limerick City, and anyone from Region 4, which comprises Clare, Kerry, Limerick & Tipperary, are welcome to attend. The next meeting of Limerick Radio Club will take place next Wednesday 13th November at 19.30 in the Limerick Institute of Technology. New members are of course always very welcome.
2014 will see 'once in a decade' changes to the UK amateur radio licence. The RSGB are providing an online discussion forum to enable people to express their views Anyone, RSGB member or not, can contribute to the discussion on next year's licence changes. Armin DK9PY has been active as FH/DK9PY from Mayotte Island since 4 November. He will be there until 11 November when he moves to Reunion Island until 22 November. While on Reunion he will sign FR/DK9PY. This is a holiday style operation using CW on 40 – 10 m. QSLs go via the home call.
Nick G3RWF has been very QRV as 5X1NH from Uganda in recent weeks. He is there until 16 November. He then will spend about 10 days in Rwanda as 9X0NH from 19 November. He will be joined by Alan G3XAQ who will sign 9X0XA. They intend to take part in the CQ WW CW Contest. QSLs for 5X1NH and 9X0NH go via G3RWF. QSLs for 9X0XA go via G3SWH.
Additional activity from Rwanda will be by Carl SM6CPY with the callsign 9X0PY. He will be there from 11 – 18 November.
A multi-national team will operate as W8A from American Samoa from 12 – 22 November. They will be QRV on 160 – 10m with a focus on Europe for the high bands. They will operate mainly CW. During the CQ WW CW Contest they will use the callsign N8A. QSLs for both calls go via ZL3CW. Further info can be found on www.n8a.eu
Most of the American Samoa team will stop at Samoa on the way home and activate 5W1A from 27 November – 2 December. Once again QSLs go via ZL3CW.
