The weekly radio news in Irish, which is read by Paddy Maher EI7GK on Sundays at 11.30 am local time has moved to 40 metres. The news frequency is 7.128 MHz, which is 5kHz above the English-language 40 metre news frequency. As well as "as Gaeilge", call-ins in English are welcome to the news in Irish.

EI115MAR

EI115MAR is a special call-sign issued to the Howth Martello Radio Group to celebrate the 115th anniversary the first use of wireless to report live on a sporting event. This was during the Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire) Yacht Regatta in July 1898. The group will be using this call-sign during the month of July especially on the weekend of 20/21 July. The South Dublin Radio Club will also be active during July using the special call-sign EI115KR and will be operating from the Maritime Museum in Dun Laoghaire (Kingstown). Tony EI5EM has uploaded a video clip to Youtube, simulating a CQ call from EI115MAR on a spark transmitter similar to those used in July 1898 during the regatta.


Dundalk Amateur Radio Society, EI7DAR

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society held a very successful field day / public relations day in glorious sunshine at Louth Agricultural Show on the 16th June. Operating all bands, hf to vhf, fm, ssb and data modes, numerous contacts were made throughout the day.

With Thos / Ciaron qro 100 watts on ssc/cw into a dipole and Seamus / Hugh qrp KX3 5 watts psk31 into a h/b vertical, a competition soon ensued, with qrp contacting the most countries.

The members were kept quite busy with visitors to the stand and hope to have a few new members at their next club meeting.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will activate Kells Priory in County Kilkenny over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd of June. Kells Priory has been assigned the CASHOTA number EI023/C and the WAI square S44 – Kilkenny. Kells Priory is unusual in that it consists of seven castles all within the same site. Its history can be dated back as far as 10th century and it has connections with Strongbow who was involved with the Norman invasion of Ireland. This is the first time for Kells Priory to be activated and anyone wishing to get the call sign and up to date details of bands we are working etc, these will be available on the SEARG page on Facebook and Twitter and also on the SEARG website.

The June meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday the 24th of June at 8.30 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a committee meeting at 8.00 pm sharp and as always new members are very welcome.


North Cork Radio Group

The North Cork Radio Group is also pleased to announce that they will be organizing a Fox Hunt in County Cork on Saturday 14th September 2013. The purpose of this hunt is to find a fox in County Cork, by use of direction finding radio techniques using the 2-meter Amateur Radio band. The winner of the fox hunt is the team which finds the "fox" by the least mileage driven. The entry fee's are 10 euro per vehicle, and 70% of all money's received will be given as prize money. As this hunt is mainly based on receiving radio techniques to try to find the fox, this is open to everybody, including SWL's. Last Telegram

India will pull the plug on its 160-year-old telegram service on 14 July, this year. This will probably be the last telegram ever sent in the world. However, telegrams are still relevant in this vast country. More than 500 million people are still without access to a phone or Internet. For these people, telegram still remains the only digital communication available. 'At their peak in 1985, 60 million telegrams were being sent and received a year from 45,000 offices.


Ham Radio Emergency Communications in Poland

Polish radio amateurs have signed a agreement with the Government regarding the provision of emergency radio communications 

On May 7, 2013, an agreement was signed between the Minister of Administration and Digitisation (MAC) and the Chairman of The Polish Amateur Radio Union (PZK). 

The agreement promised cooperation between the Amateur Radio service and the Polish government to provide support for measures that provide information on natural disasters and other events that threaten public safety.
