Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday 4th October at 2 p.m. in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee online are available by clicking on the Licence Exam button on the IRTS homepage at Places for the examination are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The closing date for applications to sit this examination is Thursday, 20th September Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee in order to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

SEARG theory classes continue to run every Wednesday night running up to the next exam in October and our monthly meetings take place in Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford at 8.30 p.m. on the last Monday of each month. New members are always welcome.

North Cork Radio Group

NCRG are pleased to announce their annual Radio Rally & Electronics Fair to be held on Sunday, 9th September 2012 at the Roebuck Room, Commons Inn, Blackpool, Cork.

Doors open at 11am and admission is €5 per person (children are free). Raffle tickets will also be available at the door.

The usual traders will be present. Cashota Ireland and Cashota

CASOTA- Ireland and CASHOTA - Castles and Stately Homes on the Air, will be holding its 2nd annual Heritage Month, throughout the last two weeks of August to encompass the Irish heritage Fortnight and the whole of September for the many Uk dates and regions. This award is open to anyone wishing to take apart either as an activating station or heritage chaser. South Dublin Radio Club

South Dublin Radio Club meetings resume on Tuesday next, 21st August. SDR meets on a Tuesday from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm in the Ballyroan Community Centre, Marian Road, Rathfarnham. New members and visitors are always welcome.

Later this month, Ballyroan Community Centre is holding an Open Day, to enable users of the community centre to showcase their activities. SDR, along with IRTS, will have a stand at this event, which starts at 7.30 pm. on Tuesday 28th August.

Mayo Radio Experimenters Network

The Mayo Radio Experimenters will be taking part in the ILLW weekend activities.We will activate Blacksod Lighthouse, Belmullet, Co. Mayo.We will use the callsign EI0M /P . The Blacksod Lighthouse number isIE0008.Qsl cards through the Buro please.

Activities will commence at Blacksod from 1600 UTC Saturday 18th to 1600 UTC Sunday 19th approx times. Further information is available from and the clubs website

Vintage Radio Museum Howth

There will be a talk in the Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio in Howth on Tuesday 21st of August, at 11 AM, to launch the Martello Heritage Trail, given by Pat Herbert. Admission is free. Follow the link for more details. Click on the link :- , for more information.

DX News

A special event station with the callsign SU30ASR will be QRV from Alexandria in Egypt from 24 August until 2 September. QSLs go via SM5AQD.

DXers who recently worked Alex UA9YAB as YV7 and YV5/UA9YAB will be saddened to hear of his death while still in Venezuela. It is thought that his death occurred as a result of a bite from a poisonous jellyfish. Our sympathy goes to his XYL Natalia and his two young children.

Last week we mentioned the prefix change for Niue Island in the Pacific. The former ZK2 prefix has been changed to E6. Two stations are due to activate Niue Island from 7 – 21 September. They are W7GJ and ZL1RS who will use the callsigns E6M and E6RS respectively.

Vlad UA4WHX continues with his travels and most recently has been active as EY8/UA4WHX. The length of stay in Tajikistan is unknown and QSLs go via the home call.
