Volvo Ocean Race (EI12VOR)

Galway Radio Experimenters Club have just completed a successful week long series of activities in conjunction with the finale of the Round the World Volvo Ocean Race. Portable activites were carried out from the Scout Camp located at South Park, Claddagh, which was part of the overall site. During the week scouts were introduced to the wonders of the hobby. Short talks and demonstrations were given on topics which included, propagation, conctruction, communications methods, morse code, as well as other aspects of the hobby. Scouts showed a great interest in all aspects of the hobby and were very pleased to have any questions answered in a very down to earth and practical manner. Indeed the speed that some took to learning morse was a joy to behold. Scouts from the Galway region as well as all over the country were in attendance and listed their visit to the "The Shack" as one of the most enjoyable. And so popular was the experience that we had several who made repeat visits. Many thanks to the many visiting amateurs who visited us on site.
