Murat TA1AMC has been heard on the bands in recent days signing T5/TA1AMC from Somalia. It is reported that he is a member of the Turkish Ministry of Health National Medical Rescue Team and that he will be QRV from Mogadishu for the next three months. At present his DXCC status is uncertain but it looks like a case of ‘Work First Worry Later’
The multi-national DXpedition to Rotuma is expected to be on the air from 27 September and will be active till 7 October. The callsign will be 3D2R and operation will be on all bands 160-10m with CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK and SSTV plus 6 and 2m EME. QSLs go via YT1AD and the logs will also be uploaded to Logbook of the World.
PA1LP will be active from Surinam in South America using the call PZ5LP from 18 September until 15 October. QSLs go via his home call.
A new polymer jelly could be the next big step forward for lithium batteries. The jelly replaces the volatile and hazardous liquid electrolyte currently used in most lithium batteries. Researchers from the University of Leeds hope their development leads to smaller, cheaper and safer gadgets. Once on the market, the lithium jelly batteries could allow lighter laptop computers, and more efficient electric cars.
