The next IRTS Committee meeting, is being held in Portlaoise next Saturday 27th of November at 11 am.
Affiliated Clubs are reminded that they are entitled to send a representative to the committee meeting. They should advise the IRTS secretary of the name of their nominated representative before the meeting.
The Society is in discussions with a number of parties with a view to a possible Transition Year Secondary school project based around one of the proposed educational satellites to be launched next year.
If any of our members are teaching at secondary level or have past experience of same, we would welcome their help in designing the content of the project or indeed carrying out a critique on the proposal.

From November 18th until November 29th, Stan, EI6DX is going to operate from the village of Somone, 70 miles South East of Dakar. Stan's target is to take part in the CQWW contest and hopefully win one of the top 3 places in the selected category.
Outside of the contest it is a holiday style operation with activity mainly on 160 and 80 metres. During CQWW special callsign - 6V7Y - will be used. 6W/EI6DX callsign was received for activity outside of the contest.
Top Irish, European and North American stations that make the most contacts with 6W/EI6DX will receive a genuine Senegalese miniature painting created by one of the local artists. AREN Recently sought and received equipment from Generous Amateurs and dealers for use in building up communications after the recent disaster. The EI donated equipment is in use with acknowledgement on their website www.pakhams.com
Author Jack Lynch’s new book "Beyond the Sea, Memoirs of an Irish Radio Officer" These memoirs record the life of a Cobh, Co. Cork boy born in 1927 from infancy to adulthood in the millennium.
Amongst the happy memories are the games and tricks played on each other and his schooling from the convent years to secondary college in Cobh. It is an honest reflection of the heartbreaks and Jack now lives in Malahide. His book is available in all good bookshops
Next weekend (27/28 November) one of the most popular DX Contests takes place. This is the CQ WW CW Contest. Many operators will be travelling to exotic spots and it is a great opportunity to work a few new and /or rare DXCC entities.
For newcomers to the contest scene it can at times seem to be a complete madhouse on the bands during a contest but it can be very rewarding for DX chasers. For this particular contest the contest exchange is signal report plus CQ zone. As EI is in Zone 14 a typical report from here would be 59914.
Stan EI6DX is in Senegal at present signing 6W/EI6DX and during the contest he will use the callsign 6V7Y. QSLs can be sent via the IRTS Bureau.
Other calls to look out for are:-
9L5VT operated by members of the Voodoo Contest Group who have been travelling to west Africa for many years for this contest. This year they are in Sierra Leone and QSL info is via G3SXW.
In the Bahamas three American amateurs will be on as C6AKX on 20m, C6ATA on 40m and C6ARR on 160m.
Morocco will be activated by three Spanish operators using the call 5C5T from the local radio society’s HQ station.
Gerd DL7VOG is going to the island of San Andres and will sign HK0GU.
An unusual prefix will be found in Nicaragua when three American visitors use the call H7V during the contest. As you know the regular prefix for there is YN.
