As is common through the year we have occasional lulls in news. If your group or club are involved in anything that you would like to share with our Listeners or readers please pass on the information to our editor.
IARU Region 1 invites the HQ-Stations of all IARU member societies and stations of Emergency Communications Groups to participate in a Global Simulated Emergency Test on Saturday November 13th, 2010 11.00 – 15.00 Local Time.
The operation will take place on and near the emergency Centre-of-Activity (CoA) frequencies on 80, 40, 20, 17 and 15 metres (+-QRM ). This event is different to earlier ones as we will not be activating all stations around the globe at the same time, instead the event will call for stations to be active at their local time.
This will mean that some stations will have to wait for HQ stations to come on air to pass their messages but will reduce the inter-region interference that may occur.
Science Week is being held from today until the 14th of November. Clubs are encouraged to take advantage of the publicity generated by Science Week to promote their activities, perhaps by putting on a special event station or partnering with some other local Science Week project.

The three South Dublin Radio Club members who were successful in the recent theory examination have now received their amateur radio station licences.
The three new licensed members are Jim Hall EI9GLB, Fran Griffin EI9GQB and his son Ronan Griffin EI9GPB. Congratulations to all involved - the students and their tutor Michael Friary EI2GKB.
In Munster some Hill walkers and radio hobbyists have come together the form the Hill Walking Radio Network. The group is trying to get other enthusiasts and users of the outdoors, where mobile coverage is poor or unreliable to use commonly available low cost PMR 446 hand held Radios. Similar networks are successful using this method in Scotland, Sweden & Austria.
Channel 8 on these radios is the Network Channel, and although phase 1 is based in Munster at the moment it is hoped this will develop into a National Organisation in a short time.

The Limerick Radio Club Website has now been ported to its own domain at www.limerickradioclub.ie Lots of new features will appear over the coming months and members are encouraged to let us know of ideas they may have for features they would like to see on the site. Many thanks to Simon EI7ALB and Gerry EI3JU for their work on the site.
The club contest call EI0A got its first airing last weekend by Ger EI4GXB in the CQWW SSB contest. A total of 1108 qso's, 107 countries, 6 continents and 42 states were contacted and we wait with interest on the final results.
The final flight of the space shuttle Discovery STS-133 was linked to the limerick Repeater via IRLP and we hope that many listeners enjoyed the live audio.
The next club meeting will take place on Thursday 11 November at the Limerick Institute of Technology at 7.30pm.
