Results in the June competition for Mayo REN Members were as follows:
In first place was John Browne EI7FAB, John Corless EI7IQ was second and Brendan Minish EI6IZ took third place. Also, John McAndrew EI3JM was 4th, in 5th place was Mike Hayes EI2EO, in 6th place was Jimmy Kelly EI2GCB and Terry Ebdon EI9IW was 7th.
The July meeting debated the continued threat from Power Line Transmissions (PLT) in Tuam, and the sub-committee gave an up to date report.
The club discussed plans for an autumn trip to Germany, and the ongoing licensing situation in Ireland.
The August meeting will take place on the 4th, which is the first Wednesday, as always.

South Dublin Radio Club members are combining with some of the GEARS club members from County Antrim to operate in the IOTA contest at the end of July. They plan to operate from Inisheer and are looking for CW operators to join the team for the contest. The WestNet DX Group were active from Inis Mor in the Aran Islands from Friday June the 18th until Tuesday June the 22nd. The callsign used was EJ7NET and activity was on HF and 6 metres.

This popular annual August event attracts hundreds of amateur radio stations at lighthouses and lightships worldwide. It is organised by Mike, GM4SUC and Kevin VK2CE is the web master. This year the period of the event is from 0001 UTC on Saturday the 21st of August until 2359 UTC on Sunday the 22nd of August.
To assist other stations in the identification of stations, it is requested that participating stations using CW add LS after their callsign at a lightship and LT at a lighthouse. SSB and other modes should use LIGHT, LGT, LIGHTHOUSE or LIGHTSHIP after their call.

Thos Caffrey EI2JD is claiming another first having worked ST2DX on 6 metres CW on June the 18th last. Conditions on 6 metres have been variable and seems well down on last years conditions.
The IOTA contest will take place on the weekend of July the 24th and 25th. A number of EI stations have announced their participation.
A joint venture between the Bristol Contest Group and the East Cork Group will operate from Bere Island. A joint venture between EI4GK, EI7GY, EI9HQ, EI7CX and some operators from Belgium will operate from the Saltee Islands. South Dublin Radio Group in conjunction with GEARS will operate from Inish Oir in the Aran Islands. Anthony EI2HY will operate from the Blasket Islands.
Experimenters with 4 metre equipment are encouraged to call in on the first Tuesday of every month on 70.2652 Mhz. Several members or Tipperary Amateur Radio Group are active on the band and would be delighted to work.
The Sun has been relatively quiet for a number or weeks, but this could soon change. One or more large sunspots are turning toward Earth, raising the possibility of solar flares, geomagnetic storms and auroras in the days and weeks ahead.
