Gene Harrington - KE2FZ / EI7HY originally from Leitrim sadly passed away on the 4th of April this year in his home in New York. He will be sadly missed by his many friends in EI.

Participants in the Counties Contest, which took place on Easter Monday last, should note that the closing date for receipt of logs is Wednesday the 5th of May.
Logs must be emailed or postmarked by this date, late entries will not be accepted. Please remember to state clearly the category you are entering and include a brief summary of the equipment used.
Logs should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Paper logs should be sent directly to the Contest Manager - Noel Walsh EI2JC at QTHR.
All logs received by email will be acknowledged. Postal entrants requiring acknowlegement should include a stamped addressed envelope.
Slight changes to the conditions of this competition have occurred in that the period of this competition has changed from every Sunday in the month of July to cover the entire month of July without exception. The Limerick Radio Club are please to announce their participation in Euradio. The Club will operate the callsign EI25SL over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of May. Operation will take place from Limerick City Council Headquarters from 0800 - 1800 hrs on both days, after hours operation is also planned from various locations and bands.
The club has secured sponsorship from Icom UK for the event. Icom UK are supplying an IC756 Pro2 for the weekend as well as lots of amateur radio information packs. The club intends to use a full size G5RV and possibly a multiband vertical.
It is intended to try and let members of the public have a chat with some Slovenian hams if possible. The Prime Minister of Slovenia will be at the station on Sunday the 2nd and it is hoped that he will pick up the microphone as well...
LRC are looking forward to the event and hope to meet you all on the bands.
The EI25 Special Event Stations operating over next weekend will give EI's and GI's an opportunity to work them by QSYing to 80 metres between 12 noon and 1 p.m. local time on both Saturday the 1st of May and Sunday the 2nd of May.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group are activating EI25LY from the grounds of Kilkenny Castle on Saturday and Sunday the 1st and 2nd of May as part of the 'day of welcomes' for the new accession states. The group will be hoping to work as many stations from Lithuania as possible and would appreciate as many group members and radio amateurs as possible to come along and join in and support the event. The group would like to invite radio amateurs from in and around the Kilkenny area to assist and participate in the event.

Just a reminder that the first Tuesday of every month has been designated for 4 metre activity net from Cork and south Tipperary. Currently on test at the moment is a 4 metre simplexer on 70.350 MHz.
Tommy(EI2IT), John(EI2JB), John(EI7IG), Eddie(EI3FFB) and James(SWL) climbed Galtymor for the counties contest on Easter Monday last. They met at the car park at approximately 10 O'clock to begin their journey up the mountain.
They arrived at the top shortly after midday and proceeded to set up the station.
An enjoyable day was had by those involved.

The UBA is organising a contest to celebrate the official entry of 10 new member states to the European Union. The purpose of the contest is to contact as many EU stations as possible and will take place on the 1st of May. This is a 24-hour event.

Daniel EI9FHB will be working at Inishtrahull lighthouse off the coast of Donegal from Saturday the 1st of May for a week. Subject to work requirements he should be active on HF in the evenings after 8 p.m. mainly on the worked all Ireland frequencies.
Operating using voice only and using the callsign EJ9FHB this rare island now uninhabited will be active for this short period only.
At a meeting on the 13th of April last, members of South Dublin Radio Club discussed the proposed draft new constitution for the club. A number of changes to the original draft were discussed and agreed. A revised draft, incorporating these changes, can now be downloaded from the club's web site www.qsl.net/ei2sdr/
Paul O'Kane EI5DI will be attending the club meeting on Tuesday 27th of April to talk about his experiences on the Rodrigues Island DXpedition, contesting tips and how to get the best from his SD program.
The next general meeting of the group will take place on Wednesday the 28th of April at 8.00 p.m. in the Roanmore Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford. This meeting will be used to discuss the clubs upcoming participation in the EURadio event.
The event in Waterford is being run in conjunction with Waterford Spraoi. Waterford Spraoi are a Street theatre company which hosts Irelands biggest street theatre festival along with many other events throughout the year and will be organising the 'Welcome Celebrations' in Waterford.
The group will operate EI25ML form the Dome on the Millennium Plaza in Waterford city during Saturday, this will tie in with the other cultural activities which will take place in the city on the day. The station will continue operation on the Sunday from an alternative location.
Congratulations to Rob EI2GPB and Gerry EI2GNB on their new callsigns. Both Rob and Gerry completed the theory course with South Eastern Amateur Radio Group.
An event station will be operated by Letterkenny Institute of Technology to celebrate the enlargement of the EU over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of May. It is hoped that as many local amateurs as possible make some time to make contact with the station and if possible come along and join in.

The 50 MHz UK Activity Contest takes place on the 27th between 2000 and 2230 hours local time.
The multi-operator T33C DXpedition to Banaba island commenced on the 4th of April last. The island counts as OC-018 for the IOTA award.
