IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday April 6th 2003


Cork Radio Club

During our recent AGM of Cork Radio Club, the following Committee members were elected; Chairman is Jeremy EI5GM, Treasurer is Dick EI6HH and Secretary is Stephen EI6JA. Other Committee members elected were Finbar EI1CS, Aedan EI3EG, Vincent EI7HN and Brian. Chuck EI4IS continues as QSL manager and the Cork radio club DX award manager.

The club would like to send our best wishes to Ingo DH5ST on his return home. Ingo is quite active on the HF bands and has made over 2500 QSO's, to over 106 different countries while here in EI. The club looks forward to Ingo's next visit to Ireland.

This year the Blarney rally will be held on Sunday the 21st of September at the Blarney Park Hotel, Co. Cork. The official website of the Blarney Rally is www.blarneyrally.com

The club is active on HF from our Wilton QTH and recently received the Euro award. The Cork Radio Club meets every Monday night at Wilton Park house Wilton.


DX Cluster News

From Saturday the 29th of March the South Co. Dublin DX Packet Cluster node at Shankill will be using the callsign EI7SDX and associated NETROM node callsign EI7SDX-9. The Wicklow DX Packet Cluster node at Bray will be changing its callsigns to EI7WDX and EI7WDX-9 respectively. These nodes are now managed by the Two Counties DX Cluster Group. EI1AEW Special Event

The 75th anniversary of the first east to west flight across the Atlantic occurs during the month of April. The Bremen took of from Baldonnel on the 12th of April 1928 and landed 36 hours later on Greenly Island, Newfoundland.

Members of EI2V have been given permission to operate a special callsign for the Month of April from Baldonnel. The call is EI1AEW (1st Atlantic East West) and will be operated by Paddy (EI1DG) and Martin (EI5GB). Modes in use will be SSB, CW, PSK, RTTY and possibly some SSTV, there will also be a limited aeronautical mobile operation on SSB using the call EI1AEW/AM. This will be from the Casa maritime patrol aircraft. All HF bands will be operated on.


IRTS AGM

The Irish Radio Transmitter Society Annual General Meeting will take place on Sun April the 27th at 2.30 p.m. in Jury's Green Isle Hotel, Naas Road, Dublin 22.

An Afternoon With Declan Craig EI6FR.

The Mayo Radio Experimenters Network is pleased to announce that on Sunday April the 13th the group will host 'An Afternoon With Declan Craig EI6FR', commencing at 2.30 p.m. The event will take place in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Linenhall Street Castlebar.

The afternoon will commence with a short introduction to the hobby presented by John Corless, EI7IQ, followed by the main event, where Declan will give an insight on life at the other end of the pile-up as a rare one is activated.

The event is open to all, and admission is free. After the presentation, one of the many DXPedition videos featuring Declan, will be shown on the large screen in the Centre which can seat 150 people.


Packet Radio

A talk will be given by Dave EI3IO and Hugh EI6CPB on Packet Radio and the Packet Radio Network in Ireland. There will be practical on air demonstrations of equipment and procedures. This event will be of interest to Radio Amateurs with little or no experience with the Packet Radio mode and those who want to brush up on the finer points and new developments.

The talk will take place in the North Dublin Radio Club, Chanel College, Coolock, on Saturday the 12th of April at 8.00pm. All Radio Amateurs are welcome.


DX News

VP8ROT is active from Rothera base on Adelaide Island, Antarctica. The island counts as AN-001 for the RSGB IOTA awards. The station has been active on 20 metres between 0200 and 0500 UTC.

Les, 7Q7LA, is active from Malawi till middle of April.

8Q7VR is active from the Maldives May. QSL information is via UR9IDX.
