Leonids Meteor Shower

The Leonids meteor shower will peak early this week. VHF operators will be taking advantage of what should be excellent conditions to work long distances using the reflections off the meteor trails. Activity should be high between about 0300 UTC and 1200 UTC. The casual listener can tune around 144.200 MHz which is the SSB meteor calling frequency, but if you intend to get involved be sure to read up on the agreed IARU meteor scatter procedures so as not to cause problems for other stations.


Mayo Radio Experimenters Network

The Mayo Radio Experimenters Network have announced Saturday December the 21st as the date for their annual Christmas Dinner. The venue is The Clew Bay Hotel, Westport.

The club regularly meets in a private room at Stensons of Ballyvary on the N5 and the meetings take place on the first Wednesday of the month.


Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

A well-attended Annual General Meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group took place at Raheen House Hotel Clonmel on November the 7th last, an open and frank discussion on all topics of radio was held.

The following Committee was elected at the AGM. Chairman is John Burke EI2JB, Vice Chairman is Ronald McGrath EI6GO, Secretary is Noel Walsh EI2JC, Treasurer is Thomas Hallinan EI2IT, and Public Relations Officer is Paul Norris EI3ENB.

The Group wishes to extent best wishes and congratulations to popular members Tommy and Marie who tied the Knot recently, The Annual Christmas Dinner get together will be held this year in Raheen House Hotel on Saturday December the 21st and anyone wishing to attend can get further information from Ron at 052 21654. The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will be on Wednesday December the 4th.


VHF News

A group of radio amateurs from Germany are QRV during the Leonid meteor shower in November from both sides of the Atlantic ocean.

Paul EI2CA will be QRV from IO43 for the peak of the Leonids, from 03 UTC to 13 UTC on the 19th of November. Operation will be SSB only on 144.232 MHz. Callsign will be EI2CA/P who will transmit even minutes with 15 second breaks.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The club started its night classes leading up to the theory exam last Monday the 11th of November in the Vocational School, Dungarvan Co. Waterford. The class was well attended with people attending from Cork, Youghal, Dungarvan and Waterford. The classes will run for approximately the next six months. The next class will take place in the same venue at 7.15 p.m. next Monday night. For enrollment or details regarding the classes, phone Mark on 087-6302026.

The next meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place on Wednesday the 27th of November in the Roanmore, Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford.
