IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday August 26th 2001


Limerick Radio Club

The Limerick Radio Club would like to thank the Phoenix Radio Club for their hospitality shown last Thursday the 16th of May to Maurice EI6AAB and Richard EI3FHB. Both Maurice and Richard travelled to Dublin to sit their Morse exam, they are awaiting with crossed fingers a successful result. The club would also like to thank Brendan EI0CZ and Mike EI2IX for organising and running the Morse classes that were held in Limerick.

The Limerick Radio Club will start meeting again shortly after the summer recess. Details will be announced soon.


Rally News

The Cork Radio Club Rally will take place on September the 16th 2001 at the Blarney Park Hotel, Blarney, Co.Cork. Doors open at 11 a.m. and admission is £3.00. This is the 10th Blarney Rally and as usual the rally will include a selection of radios, antennas and computers etc. The IRTS will attend the rally and there will also be a bring and buy.

Phoenix Amateur Radio Club Euro Rally will be held at the Coolmine Community School on Sunday the 24th of February 2002. Doors open at 11 am and admittance fee is 3 Euros. Traders wishing to book table space, please contact Tom EI2AJ at QTHR or Clubrooms (meetings are on Thursday at 8 p.m.).


Moldova Activity Day

The Amateur Radio Society of MOLDOVA (ARM), declares days of activity of amateur radio stations of the country in the period from August the 25th until August the 31st 2001, in honour of tenth anniversary of declaration of independence of the Republic of Moldova on August the 27th 1991. In this period the special callsign ER10MD will be active and those who make QSO?s with ER radio amateurs will receive the special "MOLDOVA-10th anniversary of independence" award.

Special event station ER10MD will be active from the 25th to the 31st of August 2001 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the proclamation of independence. QSL is via ER1BF.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

There will be no general meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group for the month of August. The next committee meeting will take place on Wednesday the 5th of September and general meetings will resume on Wednesday the 26th of September at 8.00 p.m. in the Roanmore Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford. UK Licensing

Important Announcements on the Future of UK Amateur Licensing will be made at the Leicester Amateur Radio Show on the 21st and 22nd of September. The RSGB and Radiocommunications Agency will do a presentation on the past year or so of discussions between the RSGB, RA and the amateur radio community in the UK.


Women's role in Amateur Radio

In an interview on the SARL's special woman's day broadcast on August the 9th ICASA Councillor Yasmin Carrim said that women have an important role to play in Amateur Radio. The program Celebrating Women in Amateur Radio also featured historic interviews with the grand old lady of South African Amateur Radio Iris Hayes, Astronaut Susan Helm and DXer Iris Colvin.


VK6PM in EI

Con Murphy VK6PM/EI7ID, a life member of the I.R.T.S. will be in Ireland,mainly in Dublin during September and would like to meet some EI?s, especially in the Rathfarnham group as he lived in the area for 14 years from 1955 using his callsign EI9S. During his visit, he will be staying at Shankill,Co. Dublin and would also like to meet the Bray group if possible. Con will be active on two metres during his stay.
