City of Dublin Radio Club

The City of Dublin Radio Club have resumed their weekly meetings after the Summer break and will hold a committee meeting on Wednesday night next. The club meets at St. Ann's Parish Centre in Molesworth Lane, Dublin 2. New members and visitors are always very welcome.


Fingal Rally

Fingal Radio Club will be holding it's rally in Jury's Hotel, ballsbridge on Sunday next October the 4th. Now is the time to empty the shed or shack of all those bits of junk that have accumulated over the past few years and turn them into money so you an buy that nice rig or accessory you have wanted for some time. As well as the usual stands, Astronomy Ireland will be in attendance and will have on display the largest privately owned telescope in Ireland.


Cork Rally last Sunday

The annual Blarney Rally promoted by Cork Radio Club was held last Sunday at the Blarney Park Hotel in Cork. As always, the event was very successful and while the turn out was slightly down on previous rallies, all present enjoyed themselves. All the usual traders were in attendance and reported a successful days trading. The Cork Astronomy Society had a fine display of telescopes etc. courtesy of Charles EI5FK and the IRTS Bookstand had the usual wide range of radio related publications. Cork Radio Club would like to express their thanks to all who supported the rally, especially the traders and those who took tables.


Tir Conaill Amateur Radio Society

The Tir Conaill Amateur Radio Society annual general meeting will be held in Jackson's Hotel in Ballybofey on Wednesday next September the 30th at 8.30pm. All members are asked to attend and of course intending members will also be made very welcome. The club's annual rally will be held in Jackson's Hotel on Sunday November the 1st and the annual dinner dance will as usual be held the previous night at the same venue. All information about the rally or the dinner dance can be had from the secretary, Gerry Dykes EI8HO, on packet at GB7TED or EI5TCR or on the telephone at 072-52598.


2 Metre Counties Contest

The Autumn 2 Metres Counties Contest was held on Sunday last September the 20th and for a change both the weather and propagation conditions were excellent on the day. What a pity that more operators did not avail of the occasion, as early reports suggest that the turnout was the poorest for some time. Portable stations heard include EI2HX in County Louth, EI7GY in Wexford, EI4FCB in Offaly and EI3ESB was mobile in County Mayo.

Participants are reminded that logs must be submitted within 30 days to the Contest Manager at P.O. Box 462 Dublin 9 and should include a summary sheet showing station location, section entered, final claimed score, the equipment used and the names and callsigns of the operators.


Mayo Radio Experimenters Network AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Mayo group will be held in the Wishing Well Tavern, Ballyvary on Wednesday October the 10th at 2100. All members are asked to attend to review a very successful year and elect officers and plan for the coming twelve months.


Packet Cluster Changes

Packet Cluster is now well established in Ireland with nodes in Dublin, Donegal and Cork. The East Cork cluster recently changed callsigns to EI8IR from the old EI7DNB and the gear was moved to the QTH of Dave EI4BZ. East Cork is now linking to Dublin through a new 4 metre node on the old Limerick repeater site courtesy of Limerick Radio Club. The Dublin Cluster will also change callsign with effect from 2200 on October the 1st from the existing callsign EI6FR to the new EI7NET. This cluster is currently operated from the home of Declan EI6FR but it will be moved to a new location in the near future.


Upcoming HF Contests

Dxers might be interested in the VK/ZL Oceania Contest which will be held over the next two weekends, with the SSB on next weekend and the CW leg on October 10th and 11th. The biggest contest of the year is the SSB CQ Worldwide and this will be held on October the 24th and 25th.

Listeners are reminded that the Radio News bulletins are prepared on Tuesday nights and are mailed on Wednesdays.
