Happy Christmas

The Irish Radio Transmitters Society would like to thank all news contributors for their item submissions throughout 2019 and wish a very Happy Christmas to all our listeners.


Amateur Station Licence Exam

Reminder: The next Amateur Station Licence Exam will be held on Thursday 7th May 2020 in the ComReg Offices in Dublin and at other centres if warranted by the numbers. See www.irts.ie/exam for full details on how to enter for this exam. This page also includes links to the exam syllabus, the Course Guide and other study material.

Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page, forward the completed form and pay the appropriate fee to secure a place for the exam. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday, 23rd April 2020.


Kerry Amateur Radio Group

KARG held their Annual Christmas Dinner last Saturday 14th December at Muckross House Restaurant. The dinner was well attended by members and their families and a great day was had by all. The success of the 2019 events were reviewed and KARG looks forward to doing it all again in 2020. Thanks to all that attended and KARG look forward to seeing you all at the next monthly meeting in January.

Following the very successful Centenary commemoration of the First Voice transmission across the Atlantic from East to West, from Ballybunion to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the Special Event Call EI-100-YXQ will continue to be on the air until the end of the year. It is proving to be very much in demand, with DXCC already achieved.

KARG would like to thanks all its members and friends for their continued support over 2019, especially all that helped with the commemorative event in March which Princess Elettra attended. Happy Christmas to you all.


Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

A well attended meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group was held recently in the Clonmel Park Hotel. Club member Tommy EI4IBB was congratulated on passing the HAREC exam and obtaining his new callsign. The club would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and plenty of DX for the forthcoming year.


IECRO Ireland

The next meeting of IECRO Ireland is set to take place in mid-January, date to follow shortly via news bulletin and on club website. IECRO Ireland would like to take this opportunity to wish all amateur radio operators and SWL’s a merry Christmas and happy new year filled with plenty of DX, QSO’s and other fun radio adventures.


Phoenix Rally

Reminder. The Phoenix Rally in Coolmine is planned to take place on Sunday 16th Feb 2020. As usual the event will be a great opportunity early in the new year for hams from all over the country to meet up with each other again. South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

A reminder that the next South Eastern Amateur Radio Group meeting will be on Monday the 27th January 2020 in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford at 8.00 p.m. sharp. IRTS President Jim Holohan EI4HH and Vice-President Pat O’Connor EI9HX will be in attendance. All members are please asked to attend. As always new members are very welcome to attend also.

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group remind everyone that are intending to book their hotel rooms for the IRTS AGM 2020 weekend in April 2020 to book them as soon as possible please. Shannon Basin Radio Club

Shannon Basin Radio Club is now running a net on 3.740 plus/minus qrm every Wednesday evening at 20:00. Everyone is welcome to give a call.

The 2 meter net is still on every Thursday evening at 20:00 on 145.350.


DX News

A joint group of Tunisian and Algerian amateurs will be active as 7X7X from 28th December – 2nd January. They will focus on 160 and 80m and digital. QSL manager is 7X2RO.

Col MM0NDX and Jonathan MM0OKG are spending a few days in Iceland. Look for them signing TF/OJ0Y from 30th December – 2nd January. QSL via EB7DX.

A team of 8 UK operators will be QRV from the Sovereign Base Area of Cyprus from 2nd – 7th January. They will use the callsign ZC4UW on all bands 160 – 10m on CW and SSB. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

Island chasers may be interested in working Ron PY6/PP2RON who will be on Itaparica Island until 1st January. This one counts as SA-023 for the Islands on the Air Award and QSLs go via his home call.
