Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday 14th November in the ComReg Offices in Dublin and at other centres if warranted by the numbers. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at

Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday, 31st October.

Shannon Basin Radio Club

The shannon basin Radio club 2m net on 145.350 MHz has moved to 21:00 every Thursday. For more information see or their club facebook page.

Galway Digital Radio Group

Final reminder that the Galway Digital Radio Group will be holding a Lecture in the UCG Innovation Centre on the 26th of September at 8pm. All are welcomed to attend. If you are interested in DMR, D-Star, and Yaesu Fusion their network will be covering these modes. The Galway Digital Radio Group are aiming this talk towards practical use rather than the technicalities of each mode. The group would recommend that anyone in the coverage area of the Galway Digital Network should attend. Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Clare, Westmeath, and possibly even Limerick.

DX News

A small group will activate Roatan Island, off the coast of Honduras, until 7 th October. They will use the callsign HQ9X. In addition to this being a rare prefix it also counts as NA-057 for the IOTA award. The team will take part in the CQ WW RTTY Contest on 28 th – 29 th September. Before and after the contest look for individual callsigns in the HQ9/homecall format.

Twelve Belgian amateurs will be QRV as MD/OP2D from the Isle of Man from 21st – 27 th September. Activity will be on all bands 6 – 160m on SSB, CW, RTTY and FT8. QSLs go via M0URX OQRS.

Rudi DK7PE will be in Guyana signing 8R1CW from 23 rd September for about one week. This will be a spare time operation and he will be QRV with wire antennas. QSLs go via the home call.

A group of VK amateurs will visit Tonga from 24 th September – 6 th October. They will use the callsign A35JT on 160 – 6m on SSB, CW, RTTY and FT8. QSL manager is M0OXO.
