IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 8th September 2019


Contests

On Sunday next, 15th September, we have 70 cms and 2 metres counties contests. The 70 cms event is just 30 minutes long, from 2.00 pm to 2.30 pm local time, and this is followed by a 90 minute 2 metres contest, running from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm local time. Both contests have mixed mode SSB/FM and FM-only sections.

Full details are at www.irts.ie/contests note in particular the permitted SSB frequencies and FM channels, also the QSY Rule that applies to FM channels only.


Galway Digital Radio Group

Reminder that the Galway Digital Radio Group will be holding a Lecture in the UCG Innovation Centre on the 26th of September at 8pm. All are welcomed to attend.

If you are interested in DMR, D-Star, and Yaesu Fusion their network will be covering these modes. The Galway Digital Radio Group are aiming this talk towards practical use rather than the technicalities of each mode.

They will be discussing the following topics

1) Galway Digital Network 2) What it has to offer 3) Coverage 4) Operating Procedures 5) Future Development 6) CPS Programming 7) Q & A Session

The group would recommend that anyone in the coverage area of the Galway Digital Network should attend. Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Clare, Westmeath, and possibly even Limerick


DX News

Fred DH5FS will operate holiday style from the South Cook Islands as E51SFS. From 8th – 16th September he will be on Rarotonga Island (IOTA OC-013) and from 20th – 25th September his QTH will be Aitutaki Island (IOTA OC-083). Activity will be on 40 – 10m CW and FT8. QSL to his home call.

Chip KB1QU will be QRV as 9G5QU from Ghana from 8th – 21st September. He will be on 40, 30 and 20m on CW and digital. QSL manager is N4GNR.

Rene DL2JRM will be active from Ceuta and Melilla on 13th – 16th September taking in the Worked All Europe SSB Contest. He will use the callsign EA9/DL2JRM and QSLs go via the home call.

Laurent F8BBL plans an IOTA Dxpedition to Corsica from 6th – 22nd September. His callsign will be TK19IOTA and he will be QRV from the main island of Corsica IOTA EU-014 as well as the smaller offshore islands EU-100, EU-104 and EU-164.
