Amateur Station Licence Examination
A reminder that the next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday 14th November in the ComReg Offices in Dublin and at other centres if warranted by the numbers. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam
Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday, 31st October.
Kerry Amateur Radio Group
KARG welcomes any requests to air the call EI100YXQ before the end of 2019, by prior arrangement with Declan EI9FVB. It is planned to have the callsign active on the air until the end of 2019 on all bands and modes. This is a special call to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the first East to West voice transmission across the Atlantic from Ballybunion to Louisberg, Cape Breton, NS.
Australian 2.5 Millimeter Band Activity
Some interesting achievements in terms of distances have been managed on 122GHz recently. Austrailian stations VK4FB and VK4CSD have established a new record for an SSB contact on 122 GHz of an amazing 69.6 kilometers (approximately 43.15 miles). Secondly it has been reported that Roland and Stefan also managed to complete what is being claimed as the world’s first FT8 contact on 122 GHz, with a range of 92.08 kilometers (approximately 57.1 miles). Signals were –17 dB on one end, and –20 dB on the other side.
DX News
Alessandro IZ1AZA will be QRV from the Faroe Islands from 21st – 28th August. He will use the callsign OY/IZ1AZA on CW and SSB on 40 – 10M. QSL via Club Log OQRS.
K9HZ will be active from his J68HZ station on St Lucia from 23rd August – 4th October. He will operate 40 – 6m and QSLs go via his home call.
Francesco IV3TMM will be on the air as 9U3TMM from Bujumbura in Burundi from 31st August – 17th September. Look for him on 60 – 6m on SSB, RTTY and FT8. QSL via Club Log OQRS.
Members of the Russian Robinson Club will activate Sledge Island in Alaska from 28th August – 2nd September. This one counts as NA-210 for the Islands on the Air Award and the callsign to be used is KL7RRC/P. QSL info is via Club Log OQRS.
