Easter Monday Contests

We have a 70 cms counties contest and a 2 metres counties contest coming shortly. Both contests are on Easter Monday, 22nd April, the 70 cms event runs for an hour from 1.00pm, followed by the 2 metres contest from 2.00 pm for two hours; these times are local times. There are usually a number of portable stations out on the hilltops for these events, so counties not normally heard on these bands may be active.


Amateur Station Exam

The next Amateur Station Licence Exam takes place on Thursday 9th May. Note that the deadline for applying for this exam is fast approaching: the closing date for applications is Thursday 25th April. See www.irts.ie/exam for details of how to apply.


AGM 2019

The Shannon Basin Radio Club would like to welcome all those attending the IRTS AGM and rally today, which is currently being hosted in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, Co. Roscommon.

A very good turnout of amateur operators, traders and clubs from all over the country are in attendance at the rally this year. Many informative talks and demonstrations have been provided on a whole range of topics, including the use of drones and an excellent demonstration of various types of QRP homebrew radio equipment.


Museum Ships Weekend

The Museum Ships Weekend this year will be held again during the weekend of June 1 and 2. Transmissions will be sent from all sorts of historic and special ships worldwide, so as to enable unique QSO’s. Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio

EI0MAR will be QRV as of 0700 Zulu on 27th of April, as an award station once again this year from the Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio in Howth. International Marconi Day is a twenty four hour event where amateur radio stations operate from various locations around the world with historical connections to Marconi.

DX News

Anders SM0HPL is QRV from Kampala, Uganda until 27th April. He is operating on CW and Digital in his spare time using the callsign 5X7W. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

Leonid RA0AM and Evgenyi RA0ANR are on holiday in the Seychelles until 19th April. Look for them as S79AM and S79ANR on 20 – 10m SSB, CW and Digital. QSL to the home call.

Max DK1MAX will sign XT2MAX from Burkina Faso from 17th – 25th April. He will be on CW and FT8. Please note that he will not be issuing paper QSLs. Logs will be uploaded to Logbook of The World.

Thomas OZ1AA and Alex OZ7AM will operate as Z66Z from Kosovo from 18th – 22nd April. QSL via Club Log OQRS.
