Silent Key
We regret to announce the passing of TONY BAKER EI6EW, Cabinteely, Co.Dublin in St. Vincents Hospital on 1st June 2018.
Tony was a founder member of South Dublin Radio Club and an avid contest man with the Dalkey Island Contest Group. He came to Amateur Radio via CB radio back in the 80s and having got his “A licence” he quickly immersed himself in most aspects of the hobby including a spell on the IRTS Committee.
Contesting was his main interest, but he enjoyed the challenge of morse and notched up many CW contacts worldwide.
His other interests were many and varied but he was also a Judge for the Irish Kennnel Club and loved his Golden Retriever Dogs especially his own, "CHIEF" who was a champion of breed.
To his dear wife Mary, his children Paul, Susan, Mark, Louise and 14 grandchildren we extend our sympathies.
IRTS VHF/UHF Field Day
The IRTS VHF/UHF Field Day takes place over the weekend of 7th/8th July. The contest is on 5 bands 50, 70, 144, 432 and 1296 MHz.
The Open Section covers all 5 bands, while the Restricted Section is for stations operating on just one of these bands.
The contest runs for 24 hours from 14:00 UTC on Saturday and coincides with similar contests in the UK and continental Europe, providing a great opportunity to work DX on the higher bands. Note that this is a field day contest with site and power supply requirements for anyone entering. See www.irts.ie/contests for full details.
China Soon on 60m
A reminder that on Sunday July 1st, Chinese B and C Class Licensees gain access to the new WRC-15 Amateur 60m/5MHz Secondary allocation of 5351.5 to 5366.5 kHz, with a maximum power of 15W EIRP, according to The No.46 Order of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released on April 18, 2018.
South Eastern Amateur Radio Group
The committee and members of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group would like to wish club secretary and weekly club IRTS newsreader David EI6GVB and his YL Jackie the very best of luck as they tie the knot on Friday next. It is hoped both of you have a great day on Friday, also the best of health, wealth and happiness and a long/happy life together.
EIDX Group
A reminder that EJ0DXG will be QRV from IOTA EU-006, EU-007, EU-103 and EU-121 this summer.
July will see activity from the Great Blasket Island EU-007. August will see EU-121 grace the bands from Bere Island. Their last Island activity ends September 16th as part of their DX Féile weekend from Inishmore, Aran Islands EU-006.
Six meter band fans should note that some of the islands being activated by the EIDX Group this summer are in rare Grid squares and good for Worked All Ireland followers. These would count towards the Island award.
Supported by dxwanted.net a beautiful plaque will be available for whoever works them on 4 different IOTA Groups. So, as a 'Bonus' or 'Wildcard' station, EI0DXG will also be QRV from Mainland Ireland (EU-115) throughout and until September 30th 2018.

Danish Headquarters Award
Make contact with OZ1HQ on either SSB or CW (or both) between July 14th 12:00 UTC and July 15th 12:00 UTC.
Rules are simple: All contacts with OZ1HQ counts for the award. More info on https://www.qrz.com/db/OZ1HQ
For EU stations, contact via five bands leads to a Gold Award. Silver is for four bands and Bronze is issued to operators who make contact on three bands.

DX News
Two Canadian amateurs will be on the Turks and Caicos Islands from 1st – 10th July. They will use the callsign VQ5Z and will be on all HF bands as well as 6m. QSL directly to VE3IKV.
Michael G0POT will be in southern Iceland from 3rd – 8th July and hopes to operate QRP from some local summits for the Summits on the Air Programme. Look out for him as TF/G0POT.
Daniel SM0UDH will be holidaying on Baa Atoll in the Maldives from 24th June – 9th July. He hopes to find time to activate his 8Q7DT call sign on SSB and Data. QSLs go via his home call.
Eric KV1J will pay another visit to the St Pierre and Miquelon Islands from 3rd – 17th July where he will sign FP/KV1J. QSLs go via the home call and logs will also be uploaded to Logbook of The World.
Antonio EA5RM is working with an NGO project in Bolivia until 10th July. He can be found on 40 - 10m SSB and Data using the call sign CP1XRM. QSL via his home call and also LoTW.
To celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the Russian Robinson Club look out for special activity between 1st June and 31st August. Work RRC members and special callsigns with an RRC suffix e.g. R25RRC. Further details can be found on https://rrc.hamlog.ru/
