IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 7th May 2017
The results of the 70cms and 2 metres Counties Contests held on Easter Monday have been published, see www.irts.ie/results for full details. Both contests were well supported, with 25 logs submitted for the 70cms event and 32 logs for the 2 metres contest. There was some activity from nearly all of the 32 counties during the contests - just 4 counties (Carlow, Leitrim, Longford and Waterford) appeared in none of the logs.
If you are listening to this bulletin on Sunday morning, don't forget that the 40 metres Counties Contest takes place today, from 12:00 to 14:00 UTC.
Cork Radio Club
The monthly meeting of Cork Radio Club will be held on Wednesday next at the usual venue, Carrigtwohill Community Centre at 8.30pm. The topic for the meeting will be Software Defined Radios, (SDRs), and different models will be explained and demonstrated. The club recently participated in International Marconi Day and operated from Marconi House in Crookhaven in West Cork, the original location used by Marconi in 1901.
The next outing for the Club will be the CW field day over the June bank holiday weekend and operation will be from the usual location in Glounthaune. New members and visitors will be very welcome in Carrigtwohill on Wednesday next.

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society EI7DAR
The Dundalk Amateur Radio Society held their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday night May 3rd 2017.

The Dundalk Amateur Radio Society is looking forward to the new club year and hopes to include many new radio-based activities, including a station re-vamp, taking part in the various contests and having some topical talks over the coming months. EI0SIX is now QRV from Enniskerry County Wicklow . QRG is 50.005 , set your dial on USB to 50.004.2 and listen for tones using PI4 software available free from OZ2M website. South Dublin Radio Club News
SDR is having a talk on Tuesday 16th May at 9pm sharp on the 6 metre 50Mhz band. Tony EI7BMB will be showing a recently made video he has received from the UK, discussing sporadic E, and his latest information and results about the newly installed six metre beacon in Wicklow EI0SIX. The talk is free and visitors are welcome to attend at the Ballyroan Community Centre on the Marian road in Rathfarnham.
Please arrive early as we expect a large crowd.
Limerick Radio Club
The last regular meeting, before the summer break, of LRC will take place on this coming Thursday 11th May. There are a number of significant items for discussion and important decisions to be made, therefore, it is important that there is a good attendance of club members.
In recent times Software Defined Radio has entered the lexicon of Amateur Radio - this months guest speaker is Peadar Forbes of Analog Devices who will give a talk on Analog Devices Software Defined Radio Developments. Everyone welcome.
United Arab Emirates on 60m
Amateurs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have access to 60m. The UAE National Frequency Plan published by the national regulator, TRA - The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, shows the WRC-15 Secondary allocation of 5351.5 to 5366.5 kHz together with ITU footnote 5.13
Caribbean Netherlands gain 60m WRC-15 Allocation
Agentschap Telecom (AT) has updated the frequency plan for Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba with the addition of the 60 meter band (5 351.5 - 5 366.5 kHz) for amateur radio on a secondary basis. Exact details are available online.
Lough Erne Rally Next Sunday 14th May 2017

Causeway Coast & Glens ARC Rally
The Causeway Coast & Glens ARC rally tales place on Sunday 28th May at the Bushmills Community Centre 14 Dunluce Road, Bushmills, County Antrim. Doors open at 11am and admission is £3.00. Amateur Station Licence Examination
The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday 29th June in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Some applications have already been received and as numbers are limited those intending to sit the examination should apply soon. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam .
Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination.
It is also important to note that even If you pay the fee on-line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Monday 12th June.
Four Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are available on the Downloads section of the website at www.irts.ie/downloads under "Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate". These reports contain very useful information for anyone studying for the Licence Examination. Intending candidates are advised to pay particular attention to the syllabus for the examination especially Annexes 1 and 2.
