IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 3rd July 2016


Contest Results

Results of CW Field Day, held over the weekend of 4th/5th June, have now been published and can be seen at www.irts.ie/results

Four contest logs were submitted - two stations from Cork, Gerard EI5KF/P and Cork Radio Club EI1C/P, and two stations situated in the Midlands, Jim EI4HH/P and Joe EI7GY/P.

Most stations reported reasonably good band conditions over the weekend, although there was only a brief opening on 10 metres on Sunday morning.


IRTS New Membership Offer

To encourage EI licence holders that are currently not members to join the society, IRTS are offering the first year of membership free of charge. This offer is open to all holders of EI licences issued after 1st January 2016, and the initiative will run until 31st March 2017. The licence must be in a personal capacity i.e. not club or special call.

Membership will give new licence holders experience of the benefits of the Society, including use of the QSL Buro.

To apply for membership it is only necessary to download and complete a membership application form available on the IRTS website, entering the note "New Licence" under your signature.

For existing members of the IRTS who obtain their full licence between the above dates the Society will give one year free membership on expiry of their current subscription. Full details available on www.irts.ie/join


South Dublin Radio Club News

South Dublin Radio Club is proud to announce that 3 of the 4 members who sat the recent radio theory examination, have been successful.

Listen out on air for Alan EI7HNB ,Keith EI7HEB and Albert EI7HHB. More members are hoping to take the next examination. Thanks to Philip EI8JT for running the classes.

At next Tuesdays meeting 5th July there will be a talk about the recent rally in Friedrichshafen, Germany and also a demonstration of a satellite tracking system.

This will take place at 8.30pm sharp and the club will continue until 10.30pm. Visitors are always welcome to drop by. The club meets every week at the Community Centre on the Marian road in Rathfarnham.

DX News

Antonio EA5RM will again be active as CP1XRM from Bolivia until early August. He will be on the HF bands running 100w to a vertical and using solar power. QSL to his home call.

OZ1DJJ will operate as OX3LX from Greenland until 15th July. Initially he will be QRV from Nuuk (Grid GP44de) until 8th July and then move to Tasiilaq Island (Grid HP15eo) for the remainder of his stay. This is not a DXpedition and he will be on the air when possible outside his working hours. His QSL manager is OZ1PIF.

Yuri N3QQ will be in Alaska next week. He hopes it will be possible to activate either Kalgin Island or Fire Island. Both these islands count for IOTA NA-158. Probable dates are 8th to 11th July and the callsign to be used will be KL7RRC.

Kouichi JR2GAG will sign V63GG from Pohnpei Island in Micronesia from 6th to 10th July. This will be a holiday style operation and QSLs go via his home call.


Olivier ON4EI/EI8GQB back in Ireland

Olivier ON4EI, is back to Ireland from 2nd July to 12th August 2016 to operate EI8GQB (EI1A during the IARU HF World Championship July 9-10 and IOTA Contest July 30th to 31st). 6m activity is also planned.

Olivier scored, with EI1A, the top Europe score in Low Power/Single Op SSB category using mainly green energy with his temporary 'Field Day like' antenna park setup. This year Olivier is competing to qualify for the WRTC 2018 in Germany.
