IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 20th March 2016


Counties Contest

On Easter Monday, 28th March, the 2 Metres Counties Contest runs from 2pm to 4pm local time. The multipliers in this contest are the EI and GI counties, while both SSB and FM can be used. There are separate sections for portable and fixed stations, low power and high power, as well as an FM Only section for single ops and an SWL section. See www.irts.ie/contests for more details. This contest has always been well supported and we look forward to hearing many EI and GI counties on the air.


IRTS AGM 2016

Limerick Radio Club will host the 84th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society over the weekend of 9th & 10th April 2016. The venue will be the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Ennis Road, Limerick.

There are 4 Workshop Talks arranged for Saturday 9th April. The talks are free and start at 2pm sharp. Everyone is welcome.

Tickets for the Dinner on Saturday night 9th April, (7.30 for 8.00pm) cost 35 Euro each (same as last year!) and are available from Tony EI2AW QTHR Golf Links Road, Castletroy, Limerick.

Limerick Radio Club has arranged with the IRTS that tickets can be booked and payment made online through the IRTS web site at www.irts.ie/agm On receipt of payment tickets can be mailed to you or collected at the hotel on the night.

South Dublin Radio Club

The 2016 South Dublin Radio Club AGM will take place on Tuesday 5th April at 8.30pm. All members are asked to attend. Amateur Radio.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will be held at Cahir House Hotel, Cahir, County Tipperary on Tuesday 22nd March 2016 at 8pm. There will be a presentation made at this meeting by Olivier ON4EI/EI8GQB on the use of green energy to power his contest station EI1A. IRTS President Ger EI8CC will also attend this meeting which is open to all and Short Wave Listeners are in particular very welcome. A number of radio related topics are up for discussion along with the Groups participation in upcoming events. Kerry Amateur Radio Group

On Sunday 28th March, KARG will participate in the Maurice Collins vintage day, near Banna, County Kerry. KARG will be QRV as EI1K from 10am on 40M to 6M bands to facilitate activation of WAI square Q72 and Maidenhead square IO52ci.

On the following day Monday 29th March, members of KARG will participate in the spring leg of the IRTS 2M Counties contest, so it looks like a very busy weekend of events for KARG.

DX News

Eric KV1J will be QRV as FP/KV1J from Miquelon Island until 29th March. Miquelon Island is part of the DXCC entity of the St Pierre & Miquelon Islands located off the coast of Canada. Activity is on 160m to 10m CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via home call and Logbook of The World.

The Island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean will be visited by two French operators from 18th to 24th March. Look for the callsigns FH/F2DX and FH/F6BEE. They will have monoband verticals on the beach for 40m to 10m and a 6 element yagi for 6m.

A group of American operators will sign J8/WW2DX from St Vincent in the Caribbean from 20th to 27th March. Activity is on 160m to 2m and QSL manager is NR6M.

The big DXpedition event this week will be VK0EK operating from Heard Island. The planned dates are 20th March to 10th April. This is a multi-national effort led by the experienced DXer Bob KK6EK. Up to date info is available on vk0ek.org …. and standby for the pileups!
