IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 6th March 2016


Limerick Radio Club will host the 84th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society over the weekend of 9th & 10th April 2016. The venue will be the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Ennis Road, Limerick.

There are 4 Workshop Talks arranged for Saturday 9th April. The talks are free and start at 2pm sharp. Everyone is welcome.

Tickets for the Dinner on Saturday night 9th April, (7.30 for 8.00pm) cost €35 each (same as last year!) and are available from Tony EI2AW QTHR Golf Links Road, Castletroy, Limerick.

Limerick Radio Club Engineers Ireland Week

Limerick Radio Club members Mike EI2IX and Simon EI7ALB gave a talk on Radio Engineering to a number of 6th class school children at the Atlantic AirVenture Centre, Shannon on Wednesday 2nd March as part of Engineers Ireland Week.

News from Kerry Amateur Radio Group

The AGM of the Kerry Amateur Radio Group (KARG) was held at the Presentation Sport Hall, in Killarney at 11am last Saturday 27th Feb 2016.

Incoming officers for 2016 were elected as follows, Chairman:/QSL Manager/Webmaster: Declan Horan EI9FVB, Treasurer/Repeater Keeper: Billy O'Connor EI7CQB, Secretary/Repeater Keeper: John Costello EI9ESB.

The next KARG monthly meeting will be held at the upstairs Café in Manor West, Tralee, Co Kerry at 11am on Saturday 26th March.

On the following day, Sunday 28th March, KARG will participate in the Maurice Collins vintage day, near Banna, County Kerry. KARG will be QRV as EI1K from 10am on 40M to 6M bands to facilitate activation of WAI square Q72 and Maidenhead square IO52ci.

On the following day Monday 29th March, members of KARG will participate in the spring leg of the IRTS 2M Counties contest, so it looks like a very busy weekend of events for KARG.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2016 AGM of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group took place on Monday 29th February 2016 at 8pm in the Roanmore Centre, Cleaboy Rd, Waterford. Club Vice-Chairman John EI3HQB welcomed all present and thanked the large crowd for attending. John then went on to give a report on the highly successful year that 2015 was for the club. He listed all the activities the club had taken part in during 2015.

John also listed some of the club activations throughout 2015 including the Geopark Weekend and also the Railways on the Air from Kilmeaden, where EI2WSVR was the only station from Ireland taking part in the event.

Club treasurer Mark EI7IS gave a report on the club 2015 finances which was financially very successful and also noting that club membership numbers are at an all time high.

The following committee was then deemed elected for 2016:

South Dublin Radio Club

The 2016 South Dublin Radio Club AGM will take place on Tuesday 5th of April at 8.30pm. All members are asked to attend. Amateur Radio classes are ongoing every week on a drop in basis. Please call by.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will be held at Cahir House Hotel, Cahir, County Tipperary on Tuesday 22nd March 2016 at 8pm. There will be a presentation made at this meeting by Olivier ON4EI/EI8GQB on the use of green energy to power his contest station EI1A.

IRTS President Ger EI8CC will also attend this meeting which is open to all and Short Wave Listeners are in particular very welcome.

A number of radio related topics are up for discussion along with the Groups participation in upcoming events.

City on Belfast Radio Amateur Society

The City of Belfast Amateur Radio Group meet on the first Monday of each month at 8pm, Shorts Sports & Recreation Club, Aircraft Park, Holywood Road, Belfast.BT4 1SL

Come along and find out about Amateur Radio. You do not need to hold an Amateur Radio licence to attend. Old and new members warmly welcomed Hope to see you there.

DX News

A group from Poland will operate as 5J0P from the island of San Andres until 21st March. San Andres is in the Caribbean and some 750km from the coast of Columbia. Activity will be on all bands 160m to 6m CW, SSB and RTTY. The reference number for the IOTA Award is NA-033. QSL info is via ClubLog OQRS.

Also in the Caribbean this week will be V4/KB1EHE operating from the island of St Kitts. He will be on SSB with 100w to wire antennas. QSL to his home call.

Bob G3PJT will be back in Grenada as J34G from 10th to 24th March. This will be a holiday style operation with activity mainly on CW on 80m to 10m.

DK2AMM, DL6JGN, GM4FDM and PA3EWP will be active as TX7EU from the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia until 15th March. They will be on 40m to 10m on CW, SSB and Digital. QSL via ClubLog OQRS.

A group of 10 German operators will be in Sri Lanka until 18th March. Callsigns to look for are 4S7GWG and 4S7RTG. They will operate 40m to 6m and QSLs are via ClubLog OQRS.

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society - 2m Handheld Raffle.

The Dundalk Amateur Radio Society, EI7DAR, will hold a draw for a brand new MYT-Q1V - VHF, 136MHz to 174MHz 2m FM Handheld radio.

To be included in the draw you must make a minimum amount donation to Dundalk Amateur Radio Society. The minimum donation amount is available on the Club website.

The draw will run until midnight on Sunday 3rd April. The draw will take place at the IRTS AGM in Limerick on Sunday 10th April. This draw is open to anyone in Ireland, north or south.
