Silent Key – Pat EI8H
The death has occurred of well known EIDX’er and 80m DX stalwart Pat Fagan EI8H, on Friday 18th September 2015. Funeral on Monday 21st September to St. Mary’s Church, Carra, 12 o’clock Requiem Mass. Burial in Granardkill Old Cemetary. To his son’s Eoin EI9O and Ciarán EI3GTB and his entire family, we extend our deepest condolences.
May he rest in peace.
Amateur Station Licence Examination
The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday, 5th November in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday, 16th October. Three Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are available on the Downloads section of the website at www.irts.ie/downloads under Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate. These reports contain very useful information for anyone studying for the Licence Examination. Intending candidates are advised to pay particular attention to the syllabus for the examination especially Annexes 1 and 2.

Cork Radio Club
Cork Radio Club members enjoyed a great days outing on Wednesday last to the RTE installations at Clarkstown, County Meath and the old transmitters hall in Athlone.
The tour was led by John Hearne EI2FG and at first a group of seventeen participants gathered at the RTE long wave transmitter site at Clarkstown, County Meath.
They viewed the longwave transmitter and the 248kHz giant three sided mast and associated unique feed line before heading for lunch at the Creggan Court Hotel in Athlone.
The group was joined by a number of further participants and everyone headed for Moydrum on the outskirts of Athlone to visit the famous and unique transmitter hall that has three generations of broadcast transmitters still intact.
The Cork Club Radio Club would like to thank all who made the trip, especially our Dublin and Mullingar visitors and a special thanks to John EI2FG for facilitating and leading this unique and educational trip.
The Cork Radio Club will meet again on October 7th at the Community Centre in Carrigtwohill when Jerry EI6BT will deliver a presentation on Marine Communications.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group
The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will be QRV as EI2WSVR (pending approval from Comreg) from the Waterford & Suir Valley Railway station in Kilmeaden Co. Waterford on Saturday & Sunday 26th & 27th September. This is to coincide with the Railways On The Air Weekend.
Proposed frequencies for the weekend include 3.650, 7.120 & 14.120MHz. We look forward to getting you in the log over the course of the weekend.
The Waterford and Suir Valley Railway Company is a community heritage project. The project has enabled the magic of the railways golden age to be brought to life in Kilmeaden. A heritage narrow gauge railway runs along 17 kilometres of the abandoned Waterford to Dungarvan line with spectacular views. The railway is currently operated by a volunteer crew.
It opens from April to the 30th September for the summer season. For more info see www.wsvrailway.ie
The September meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday 28th September at 8pm sharp. All members are asked to attend. New members are very welcome also.

DX News
Three Czech amateurs will operate as Z21MG in Zimbabwe from 20th September to 1st October. Their main focus will be on the CQ WW RTTY Contest on the weekend of 26th/27th September but they will also be on the air using SSB and CW. QSLs will be available via ClubLog OQRS.
JA0JHQ will be active from Cocos Keeling Island using the callsign JA0JHQ/VK9C until 25th September. He will be on 80 to 6m and QSLs go via the home call.
Moto JA1GZV will be QRV as TX7A from Moorea Island in French Polynesia until the end of October.
Mal VK6LC will air the callsign XV2VTC in Vung Tau City, Vietnam from 24th to 30th September. Then from 16th to 23rd October he will operate as 3W2HCM in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. His preference is for CW with some SSB.
Stan LZ1GC returns to the Pacific area from 24th September to 14th to October. He will be accompanied by Lubo OM5ZW and together they will operate as T2GC from Tuvalu. They will be joined on 29th September by John KK7L. Activity will be on all bands CW, SSB and RTTY.
South Dublin Radio Club
South Dublin radio club have recommenced radio theory classes for the Amateur Radio licence examination. The classes are run at no cost. However, there is a €5 weekly tea coffee and biscuit charge. No prior experience is necessary and beginners are welcome. Please note the new start time for SDR meetings at 8.30pm
If at all possible please pre-register for the classes through the website. However, beginners and visitors are free to drop by any week. www.southdublinradioclub.ie
2m Nets
The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group have a 2m net on Tuesday nights after the IRTS weekly news. This is to promote the use of the band, which has seen a decline in use. The intended frequency used is 145.400MHz and net has had many stations calling in since its introduction. Everyone welcome to join in.
Fingal Radio Club and Dermot EI2HD continue their 2m call-in on Wednesday and every Wednesday at 7p.m. Please try and give your support by getting on the air. Keep 2metres alive. The frequency is 145.7625MHz, CTCSS 88.5 on the Dublin repeater
