IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 6th September 2015


Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday, 5th November in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday, 16th October. Three Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are available on the Downloads section of the website at www.irts.ie/downloads under Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate. These reports contain very useful information for anyone studying for the Licence Examination. Intending candidates are advised to pay particular attention to the syllabus for the examination especially Annexes 1 and 2.

North Cork Radio Group

The North Cork Radio Group are pleased to announce their annual Radio, Electronics & Hobby Rally will be held this year on Sunday 13th September 2015 at The Commons Inn, Blackpool, Cork.

As per usual, doors will open at 11am and entry is €5 per person, children under 16 are free. Raffle tickets will be available at the door.

For anyone wishing to secure a table, or stall, please contact Lisa EI9GSB on 086 8427756 or ei9gsb /at/ me.com to ensure early confirmation. For anyone interested in taking the morse test, or to have QSLs checked, please advise us as soon as possible. Dave EI4BZ will be available on the day to conduct morse tests.

Cork Radio Club

Cork Radio Club members are looking forward to an outing, facilitated by John Hearne EI2FG to view the long wave station at Summerhill in County Meath and the old Radio Eireann transmitter site in Athlone is planned for Wednesday September 16th.

Anyone interested in travelling should contact Jim Barry EI8GS by phone or text on 087-2533768 as soon as possible.

The club will meet again on Wednesday September 9th at the Community Centre in Carrigtwohill for a video night when Jim EI8GS will show footage of radio related events from his archives.

The club is seeking expressions of interest from potential candidates for the radio theory examination. Contact Dave Ei4BZ on 087-6290574 or ei4bz /at/ eircom.net.

Looking ahead, the club’s October meeting will be held on Wednesday the 7th when Jerry EI6BT will do a presentation on Marine Communications.


South Dublin Radio Club

South Dublin radio club have recommenced radio theory classes for the Amateur Radio licence examination. The classes are run at no cost. However, there is a €5 weekly tea coffee and biscuit charge. No prior experience is necessary and beginners are welcome. Please note the new start time for SDR meetings at 8.30pm

If at all possible please pre-register for the classes through the website. However, beginners and visitors are free to drop by any week. www.southdublinradioclub.ie


South Eastern Amateur Group

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group is pleased to announce they are looking at the possibility of running a radio theory course for the Harec exam. Depending on numbers interested we would hope to start the course in September/October. Individuals interested in attending the course are asked to get in touch with Mark EI7IS or Seany EI2HZB

2m Nets

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group have a 2m net on Tuesday nights after the IRTS weekly news. This is to promote the use of the band, which has seen a decline in use. The intended frequency used is 145.400MHz and net has had many stations calling in since its introduction. Everyone welcome to join in.

Fingal Radio Club and Dermot EI2HD continue their 2m call-in on Wednesday and every Wednesday at 7p.m. Please try and give your support by getting on the air. Keep 2metres alive. The frequency is 145.7625MHz, CTCSS 88.5KHz on the Dublin repeater


DX News

Members of the Black Country DX and Contest Club based in the English West Midlands will be on Fair Isle from 9th to 15th September. They will use the club callsign MS0OXE. Fair Isle is located between the Orkney and Shetland Islands and is the most remote inhabited island in the U.K. The IOTA reference for this DXpedition is EU-012 and the QSL Manager is M0URX.

Randy K5SL will be operating holiday style from the Bahamas until 18th September. Callsign is C6ASL and he will concentrate on the WARC bands. QSL to his home call.

Sam F6AML is back on Mayotte Island in the Indian Ocean. He is reactivating his TX6A callsign. QSL to his home call.

Ken LA7GIA will be QRV from the Comoros from 14th to 23rd September. He has been issued with the callsign D67GIA. He asks that any QSL requests are sent directly to his Norwegian address. His logs will be uploaded to Logbook of The World after the expedition.


EI90IARU

Anyone wishing to use the call sign EI90IARU can do so subject to notifying Dave O'Conner EI6AL of the times/ bands/modes prior to going on the air so as to avoid any potential duplication. Anyone applying to use the call sign is considered to be undertaking to use it in accordance with the ComReg Regulations, Technical Conditions, Frequency allocations and Guidelines relating to amateur stations.

It is also essential that logs (preferably in ADI format) are kept when using the call sign and copies emailed to Dave EI6AL so that a central log can be held for QSL or other purposes. Dave can be contacted at dave.ei6al /at/ gmail.com or by phone on 086 1000000
