IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 12th October 2014
IOTA Contest Results
Provisional results for the Islands On The Air contest held last July have now been published. Over 2,200 logs were submitted for this very popular contest, including 22 logs from Irish stations.
Local stations were well up in the rankings: these included Papa Lima DX-Group (EJ1Y) - on Great Blasket Island - who achieved 2nd place in the Island DXpedition, Multi-Operator, High Power section; Gerard Scannell, who was 1st in the Island DXpedition, Single-operator Unassisted, CW 24hr, High Power section; East Cork Amateur Radio Group (EI7M) who were 2nd in the Island, Multi-Operator, High Power section, and Mark EI6JK, with 3rd place in the Island, Single-operator Assisted, SSB 24hr, High Power section - at the same time setting a new Irish record in this category.

Amateur Station Licence Examination
The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday, 27th November in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Tuesday 11th November. Three Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are now available on the Downloads section of the website at www.irts.ie/downloads under Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate. These reports contain very useful information for anyone studying for the Licence Examination
Dundalk Amateur Radio Society
Dundalk Amateur Radio Society operates a 2 metre VHF internet gateway node using the Echolink protocol on 145.2125Mhz 88.5Hz CTCSS, EI2MOG-L is located at Mount Oriel Co.Louth, the node has just been subject to it's annual preventive maintenance check by society member's, signal reports are welcome to repeaterkeeper/at/ei7dar.com. Olivier ON4EI
Olivier ON4EI, is back to Ireland from 18th to 30th October 2014 to celebrate his 20th radio operation from Ireland where he will operate EI8GQB and EI1A during the CQ WW DX SSB contest. In 2013 and 2014 Olivier scored with EI1A, top Europe score in CQ WW WPX, IARU HF and IOTA contests in Low Power Single Op SSB category.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group
The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will be hosting the 83rd IRTS Dinner AGM & Radio Rally in Hotel Kilkenny, College Road, Kilkenny on 25th & 26th April 2015. Tickets for the annual dinner which will be held on the Saturday evening at 7:00 pm are now available from John Ronan EI7IG. Tickets are priced at €35 each. Please note that admission to the dinner is strictly by ticket only.

DX News
Members of the German-based Lagunaria DX Group will be QRV from Lord Howe Island until 29 October. Activity will be on all bands using the callsign VK9DLX. They will also take part in the CQ WW SSB Contest on the weekend of 25/26 October with the callsign VK9LM.
There is holiday-style operation from Easter Island this week with CE0Y/DK5VP and CE0Y/DL8LR on the air until 18 October.
Bill N7OU returns to the South Cook Islands where he will reactivate his E51NOU callsign until 9 November. Bill is a CW operator and cards go via his home call.
Brian 9J2BO has been heard regularly on the bands from Zambia for many years. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Zambian Independence he is using the special call 9I50BO until the end of October. QSLs as usual go via G3TEV.
MREN Annual Rally
The MREN annual rally takes place today at the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar. Doors open at 11 am and admission is €5 per person (children are free).IRTS stand for QSL Cards will be available. A Bring & Buy, carvery, disabled facilities, and much more on the day. www.ei7mre.org
