IRTS 82nd AGM Dinner & Rally March 22nd, 23rd 2014

The Galway VHF Group host this years AGM Dinner and Rally. Book your place for the AGM Dinner now by contacting Steve, EI5DD on 087-2451218, QTHR and you may also contact John EI1EM on 086-8154979. Dinner tickets are just 35Euro.

The AGM Radio Rally takes place on Sunday March 23rd and all of the major traders including Maplin Electronics, their catalogue will be available. WESCOM will also be a trader, this is a very welcome return. A bring and buy stand which will be provided for those wishing to sell second hand gear. A room will be available for the CW (Morse) test.

Accommodation is available from The Galway Bay Hotel, (Tel:091-520520) at a discounted rate when you mention the IRTS AGM. Limerick Radio Club Rally 2014

The Limerick Radio Club Rally takes place on Sunday 9th March at the Radisson Hotel, Limerick. Doors open at 11.00 and entry is €5. All the major traders in EI will be in attendance and bring & buy tables are included in the €5 entry fee. For further details please contact Simon Kenny EI7ALB on 087-2858884.


Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday 22nd May in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Places for the examination are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis so you are advised to apply early. Some applications for this exam have already been received. If warranted by the number of candidates, a morning session will be held in addition to the usual afternoon session.

Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Wednesday 30th April.


Return of IRTS Awards and Trophies

If you haven’t returned your awards and trophies, awarded at last years AGM, you need to do so immediately. Please contact Peter, EI4HX immediately. Contact details are available on the IRTS website.


IRTS News now on EI2MOG

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society have announced that for the foreseeable future the IRTS news will be transmitted from EI2MOG on 145.2125MHz, CTCSS tone 88.5Hz, on Monday nights at 20.00. Essential maintenance is being carried out on the Dundalk 2M VHF EI2CCR repeater.


ECHO Ireland

The ECHO Ireland Journal is the official newsletter of the IRTS and the latest edition has plenty of updates on club activities, reports and photographs from recent rallies and contest results and much more. The formal notice of the society's Annual General Meeting, along with the committee's nominations for the offices of President, Vice-President and committee positions is also included; incidentally, the committee's nominations can be seen on the IRTS web site - see the link on the Home Page www.irts.ie .


South Dublin Radio Club

This years South Dublin Radio Club AGM will take place on Tuesday 25th March at 8pm. All members are asked to attend.

Tuesday 25th February saw a packed house at SDR to hear Daniel EI9FHB talk about preparations by himself, Tom EI7HT and Dermot EI4ESB, to receive live TV pictures from the ISS. The main mission of HamTV as it is called is to perform school contacts between the astronauts onboard ISS and the school, not only by voice, but also by unidirectional video from the ISS to the ground within the ARISS program. Daniel displayed a one metre dish with antenna feed that the group intend to use and discussed the issues with both azimuth and elevation rotators and software tracking and much more. Declan EI9HQ/EI45WAB Out and About

Declan will be out and about on a run on 8th & 9th March, heading to Northern Ireland. You can hear Declan on 7.170MHz to 7.160MHz. Listen out for the following call signs Declan will use, GI4WAB/M, GI7WAB/M. EI45WAB/M is special call sign for the 45th year of Worked All Britian.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2014 AGM of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group took place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday 24th February at 8.00 p.m. There was a large attendance present. Outgoing Chairman David EI6GVB thanked all members for attending and also welcomed the new members to the club. David thanked everyone for a very successful 2013 and he also thanked the outgoing committee for their hard work throughout 2013 and hoped that 2014 will be equally successful.

The following members were elected for 2014. Chairman: Dennis Drennan EI2HSB, Vice-Chairman: John Tubbritt EI3HQB, Secretary: David Gainda EI6GVB, Treasurer: Mark Wall EI7IS, PRO: Sean Byrne EI2HZB, Club Officer, 1. John Ronan EI7IG, Club Officer, 2. David Connolly EI3HTB and Club Officer, 3. John McCarthy EI8JA.

DX News

Jon K7CO will be active from Christmas Island using the callsign VK9X/K7CO from 1 – 11 March. Look for the station on all bands 80 – 10m on SSB, CW and PSK31. QSLs go direct to K7CO.

Bob G3PJT will be on the island of Grenada from 3 – 10 March. His callsign will be J34G and QSLs go via the home call.

Peter EI7CC makes a return trip to Lesotho this month. He will reactivate his 7P8PB call from 14 March until 3 April. As before he will be using the shack of Gerry 7P8CC (better known to us as EI8CC) and is hoping to get some more EI and GI calls into the log.

Nick G3RWF will be QRV again from Rwanda with the callsign 9X0NH. He will be there from 3 – 12 March mainly operating on CW with some SSB. QSL to the home call.
