IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 20th October 2013

IRTS Echo Ireland

The activities of radio clubs feature in the October issue of Echo Ireland, which will be mailed to members during the week. Limerick Radio Club's activation of Loop Head for the Lighthouse Weekend, and their IOTA activation of Inis Oírr, are featured. Galway Radio Experimenters Club were very active over the Summer months, and Echo Ireland includes reports on their visits to Inis Oírr and Inishbofin as well as their involvement in the Joyce Country Challenge Walk. Another Aran Islands operation - the Papa Lima DX Group's IOTA Contest operation from Inis Mór - is also covered.

Two Dublin Clubs - Howth Martello Radio Group and South Dublin Radio Club - report on their joint involvement in the Kingstown Regatta Commemoration; this article includes an interesting extract from an article in the Journal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, in which Marconi describes his 1898 operation in Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire).

The October Echo Ireland also introduces us to the newly formed Avondhu Radio Club, which is based around the North East area of Cork. Other items covered in the current issue include a report on the involvement of EI radio amateurs and SWLs in the Youngsters On the Air event in Estonia, an update from Dave EI3IO on his experience over the past few years operating as A92IO from Bahrain, and an interesting "Story of Noise" from Seán EI7CD, who successfully tracked down an electrical white noise problem to a neighbour's cable TV decoder box. Finally, of course, we have the regular columns, including Pat EI2HX's "excerpts" and more HF Happenings from Anthony EI2KC.
