IRTS AGM, Dinner and Radio Rally
This year the 81st IRTS AGM is hosted by Shannon Basin Radio Club. The event takes place in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone, Saturday April 27th and Sunday April 28th 2013. Tickets for the Dinner on Saturday night (8.00 for 8.30pm) will be available at 30 Euro each from Brian EI8IU QTHR and through IRTS Committee Members. Dress code, as usual, is smart/casual. Summits On The Air
Last weekend we heard a number of summits in Donegal being activated by the "two Victors" - GI4ONL and MI0JST. We heard them on Slieve League - one of the better-known mountains in Donegal and famed for the fabulous sea views from the nearby cliffs - and also on Carnaween and Barnesmore. They were on 40 metres both CW and SSB and were attracting great interest from summit chasers.
Series 9 Incoming QSL Manager
Effective 1st March, the 9 series incoming QSL manager duties will transition from Dave Ei9FBB to Declan Ei9FVB. We would like to extend our appreciation to Dave Ei9FBB for his service as 9 series QSL manager over the past number of years.

Dundalk ARS meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month /at/ 8pm in Larkin House, 113 Castletown Rd, Dundalk. We continue our series of talks on the 20th March with a visit from Brian MI0TGO and Graeme MI0WGM, who will share their experiences and equipment used, with the SOTA, Summits On The Air programme. Visitors would be made very welcome.
Limerick Radio Club
Limerick Radio Club held a very successful rally last Sunday and would like to thank all who attended, especially those who traveled long distances. Next meeting: The next meeting of Limerick Radio Club will take place next Wednesday evening 13 March at 7.30pm in the Limerick Institute of Technology and a talk will be given by David Magee EI2GBB on the Limerick Metropolitan Area Network.
Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club Annual Rally
The Lough Erne Rally takes place on Sunday March 24th 2013.
The location is The Share Centre, Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh, BT92, 0EQ. Usual clubs and organisations will be present. Bring and buy, Food and on site parking available. Everyone welcome. More details can be obtained from www.learc.eu
A Tale of two Forts
Ireland has two radio museums based in coastal forts. Both will have exhibits at the inland Lough Erne Rally on Sunday 24 March in the SHARE Centre near Lisnaskea.
The older fort, with a fascinating collection of radio memorabilia, is the Vintage Radio Museum based in the Martello Tower in Howth. The younger fort, with a collection of vintage amateur and military radio equipment, is in Grey Point Fort on Belfast Lough.
Youngsters On The Air
During the summer of 2013, a youth radio camp "Youngsters On The Air" will be held near Tartu, Estonia from 5-12 August. There will be 10 teams participating from different European member associations of IARU R1. The camp is organised by the Estonian Radio Amateurs Union. During this week teams of young radio amateurs from 10 different European countries will be participating in different activities: presentations, Contests, visiting radio stations, observatory, etc. Young operators or SWL's aged between 14-25, are being sought to represent Ireland, and should contact Ger McNamara, IRTS Youth Co-ordinator on 087 2532512 or by email to ei4gxb /at/ gmail.com
As two previous events in Romania and Belgium/Netherlands have shown, it will be a great experience for the young hams which they will never forget.
Pete EI7CC is now QRV from Lesotho as 7P8PB, and Aidan EI8CE will be QRV from Lesotho next week and will be signing 7P8AM. Both operators look forward to working stations from EI & GI.
IARU Region 1
IARU Region 1 President Hans, PB1T and IARU Region 1 Secretary, Denis ZS4BS, recently visited Gerry Gervin EI8CC/7P8CC in Lesotho. They were in Bloemfontein to start planning for the Region 1 Executive Committee meeting in May. Both of them travelled to Lesotho and also got a chance to operate from Gerry's shack. Issues discussed at their meeting with Gerry, included the work of the IARU and amateur radio in Southern Africa. Gerry recently had some storm damage to his shack but reports he is fully operational now.
