IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 7th October 2012


Condolences

For those who may have missed the Radio News on Sunday last we regret to inform you of the death last weekend of Mary McCague the mother of Séamus EI8BP the President of the Society. The funeral took place in Clones on Monday last. To Séamus, to his sisters Mary and Sheila, to his brother Eugene and to the wider family we extend our sincerest sympathy. May she rest in peace.


DXCC List

The updated list of EI call signs in the ARRL DXCC List - which can be seen at www.irts.ie/dxcc - shows that Declan EI6FR, who tops the 'Honor Roll' of EI call signs, has been busy increasing his DXCC credits on most of the HF bands. Jim EI9GLB, a relatively recent entrant to the DXCC list, has increased by 50 the number of entities confirmed, while Michal EI3KG has entered the DXCC list for the first time. Michal was a member of the EJ0PL team which operated from the Saltee Islands for this year's IOTA contest and is a keen CW operator.


Marconi Clifden 2012 Event

The Marconi Heritage weekend takes place over the weekend of October 12th to 14th at Clifden. More information is available on facebook.com/clifden2012.


Limerick Radio Club

The next meeting of Limerick Radio Club will be on Wednesday 10th October in the Limerick Institute of Technology at 1930. Following on from a very active Summer period of events, the next number of meetings will concentrate on upcoming events including a possible IOTA dxpedition, theory classes and practical sessions. Keep an eye on www.limerickradioclub.ie for updates.


South Dublin Radio Club

On Tuesday 9th October at the South Dublin Radio Club Declan EI6FR will present a slideshow on his IOTA DXpedition to St. Kilda in May of this year.

On Tuesday 30th of October Chris G0FDZ will be giving a talk on the UK VHF beacon GB3VHF www.gb3vhf.co.uk

The club is open from 8pm every Tuesday and all visitors are more than welcome.


Dundalk Amateur Radio Society, EI7DAR

Radio Theory Classes will commence Monday 5th November at DAR Society premises ‘Larkin House’, 113, Castletown Road, Dundalk, for preparation to sit the radio theory exam early in 2013. Tuition places are strictly limited and intending candidates are encouraged to enrol at the earliest opportunity. Tuition will involve approximately 20 weeks class attendance and an investment of €100 is required. Open nights to find out more information and to enrol on the course will be held October 17th, October 31st and on November 5th, the start of the classes. All are welcome to enrol. DX News

OH2YY and OH1TV are QRV until 12 October from Christmas Island. They are using the callsign VK9XM. They plan to be active on all bands 40 – 10m on SSB and CW. QSLs go via OH2YY.

Noel WB0VGI will be operating as 5H3NP from Tanzania until mid-December. He will use dipoles on the HF bands. QSL to his home call.

Cicero PY7ZY will be in Fiji from 11 – 15 October and will operate as 3D2ZY. With him will be Fred PY2XB who will sign 3D2XB. They are part of the Western Kiribati DXpedition team which will sign T30PY from 16 – 25 October.

A special event station to commemorate the centennial of the 1912 London International Radiotelegraphic Convention is on the air till the end of the month. The convention resulted in the earliest allotment of call letters to identify countries. The special event station which is located in the Netherlands is using the callsign PB100PREFIX. The QSL Manager is PB0P.
