IRTS Youth Co-ordinator

Following the recent IARU conference in South Africa, members societies were urged to appoint a Youth Coordinator. At the last IRTS committee meeting held on September 10, Ger McNamara EI4GXB was appointed to the role.

Ger is seeking ideas from members on how to best generate interest in Amateur Radio among young people and can be contacted on 087 2532512 or ei4gxb /at/gmail /dot /com.


Limerick Radio Club

Limerick Radio club have changed their club meeting night to Wednesday night going forward. The next meeting will be on Wednesday 12 October. Full details can be found on www.limerickradioclub.ie


Tipperary Amateur Radio Club

The Tipperary Amateur Radio Group due to popular opinion has decided to change their meetings in future to the first Wednesday of the month, the next meeting of the group will take place on Wednesday next the 5th of October in the Raheen House Hotel,Raheen Road, Clonmel at 8.30pm All are welcome.


South Dublin Radio Club

This Tuesday 4th of October from 8pm South Dublin Radio Club will demonstrate hands on operation at 10 Gighertz and above. There will be live demonstrations of reception of TV signals from 10 gigahertz and above and details of how an ordinary LNB can be modified to cover the Amateur Band from 10 to 10.5 Gigahertz for Amateur Television reception. Included will be an explanation of why those involved in Amateur Television mount their satellite dishes upside down causing unusual looks from the neighbours! Visitors are always welcome. Cork Radio Club

Cork Radio Club will meet at the Community Centre, Carrigtwohill on Monday next October 3rd at 2030. New members are always very welcome.

Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club

The Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club's monthly meeting will be held on Sunday 9th October 2011 at 3pm. It will be held in Brownlow Resource Centre, Brownlow Road, Craigavon, BT65 5DL. Memebers and Non- Members old and new are welcome to attend. Details are available at www.muarc.com


Mayo Radio Experimenters Network

The annual Mayo Radio Experimenters Network club radio rally will take place on Sunday 20th November 2011. Doors open at 11.00 am.

The venue will be the Welcome Inn Hotel in Castlebar.

DX News

Willi DJ7RJ will be QRV from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean signing FR/DJ7RJ from 4 October until 26 October. He will be operational on all bands 160-10m on CW and SSB. QSL to his home call.

Another Indian Ocean activity at the moment is Phil F6GNT who will be in Mayotte until March 2013. He is using the callsign FH8NX.

Just a reminder for the prefix hunters that the station LM9L40Y will be on the air until the end of December. This call is operated by members of the LA9L radio club in Norway and is to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the club.

Al VE1AWW will be going back to Sable Island early this month and will be active as CY0/VE1AWW. This is a work assignment but Al will be QRV when possible.


Armenia: amateur radio special event

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the independence of Armenia, amateur radio special event stations there have been authorised to use the special prefix EK20. A special award is available for working at least 20 QSOs/SWL with these special radio stations on all HF bands, including 30/17/12m, and on any modes (CW, SSB and Digital). QSLs for these special prefixes may be sent to: P.O.Box 22, Yerevan, Armenia 0002, or per the operator's instructions. The electronic award can be received in the form of a digital image file sent to you, so you may print the certificate on your printer. Send log extract of the contacts to: ek7dx /at/ yahoo.com


150th Birth Anniversary

Special Event: VA3AAR celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr. James Naismith, Almonte native, to honour the inventor of basketball at the Mill of Kintail near his birthplace. Frequencies: 20 m 14150 kHz +/- 5 kHz, 40 m 7250 kHz +/- 5 kHz, 80 m near 3755 kHz.

Date: Sunday, November 6, 2011, 24 hour operation 0000-2359 UTC (8:00 p.m. Eastern November 5 to 8:00 p.m. Eastern November 6)
