Echo Ireland

The June edition of Echo Ireland is now being prepared and members are invited to submit news items and articles for inclusion. As we are coming in to the busy season for club activities, we hope to get reports from Club PROs on happenings both past and planned.

IRTS Contests

The CW Field Day is being held over the weekend of 4-5 June 2011. Log’s to be submitted by July 5th.


Mills on the air weekend

Last weekend was the annual Mills on the air weekend. There ware plenty of activity in EI for Mill chasers. Among those heard / worked ware the Shannon Basin Radio Club activating the Elphin windmill with call EI2EWM, North County Radio Club who ware at the Skerries Windmill using the EI2NCR call and The Amateur Portable Group who ware activating Delaney's Mill in Rathfeigh with the call EI0Z/p


INTERNATIONAL GEOPARK WEEKEND 28 & 29 MAY

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group and Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club will be operating special stations next weekend 28 and 28 May.

The Lough Erne station GB2MAC will be at Marble Arch International Geopark. It will work mostly HF and be in H13 a rare Worked All Ireland square.

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group’s station, EI2GEO will be at the Copper Coast Geopark, and working most modes and bands, including ATV.

These two are the only Geoparks in Ireland, one north, one south, and are among almost 50 across Europe.


CASHOTA Ireland and UK Weekend

Next weekend ( 28th and 29th of May 2011) there will be a weekend of activity for CASHOTA Ireland and UK held from Saturday the 28th of May until Sunday the 29th of May. This event is open to anyone who wishes to activate a Castle of Stately home.

This is also an excellent opportunity to work Castles towards the CASHOTA Ireland and UK awards. This promises to be a good weekend for portable activity and if you have never considered such an operation before this would be an opportunity to test out your equipment.

To date we have commitments from EI1EM/P, Clonboo Castle, EI1NC/P, Mallow Castle, EI2NRC/P Ardgillan Castle, EI4ALE/P Ballindooley Castle, EI4LRC/P Bunratty Castle, and EI8DRB/P from Creganna Castle with a few more to come.

This promises to be a very good weekend of activity and if you can not activate a castle, do give one of the many castles, in the UK and Ireland, a call over the weekend. Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club

The Club came second in the UK final among thirteen Regional Club of the Year Award winners announced at last weekend’s RSGB AGM in Derby.

The President, Dave Wilson M0OBW presented the runner-up certificate and £500 to Michael Clarke Mi5MTC and Alan Gault Gi6PYP from the Lough Erne Club.

The winner was Reading and District Amateur Radio Club and the third was Bolton Wireless Club.

Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club congratulates its members whose activities and achievements made 2010 the club’s best year ever. Moreover, the Club thanks the SHARE Centre whose generous support and excellent facilities made all this possible.


North Cork Radio Group

The North Cork Radio Group would like to welcome their newest member, Baby Cáthal Jeremiah Sexton. Born on 11/05/11 /at/ 4.31am. Weighing 6 pounds 12.5 ounces. Well done and congratulations to Mum & Dad, Lavinia and Liam EI7GTB from all at the group.

Lisa EI9GSB using EI1NC/P will be active over CASHOTA weekend Saturday the 28th and 29th of May from Mallow Castle with assigned designator EI015/C, the Castle locator is IO52QD and Worked all Ireland is W59. The group will also be holding their own CASHOTA weekend over June 4th 5th and 6th from Blarney Castle Co Cork, EI010/C for further details visit the information pages of cashota-ireland.org

Planned open day events at Blarney for the 11th of June, for those aware, have unfortunately been cancelled by the organisers although a future date is expected. updates will be via ei1nc.com and IRTS news service. Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will take place on Thursday next the 26th of May in Raheen House Hotel, Raheen Road, Clonmel. at 8.30pm All are welcome


Cork Radio Club

The May meeting of Cork Radio Club will be held in the Community Centre in Carrigtwohill on Monday the 30th and will feature a presentation and live demonstration of D-Star by Don Kelly EI8DJ.

The meeting will also review the successful trip to Brow Head for International Marconi Day and will finalise arrangements for the CW Field Day on the following weekend.

Helen Sharman GB1MIR

Helen Sharman GB1MIR became the United Kingdom's first astronaut when she blasted off from Baikonur in Kazakhstan at 1250 GMT on May 18, 1991 on her way to the MIR space station from where she operated GB1MIR. A video of her space flight can be seen//www.southgatearc.org/news/your_news_1.htm
