IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 1st March 2009
IRTS AGM
The IRTS AGM weekend, which is hosted by the Shannon Basin Radio Club, takes place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April 2009. The venue is the Shamrock Lodge Hotel Athlone, which boasts ample car parking space and the best facilities around.

Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club
A new repeater (GB3CP) is due to come online in South Fermanagh. The frequency of the repeater input 145.1375 Tone 1750Hz/110.9Hz
The licence has been granted and just awaits installation on Carnmore Mountain between Fivemiletown in County Tyrone and Roslea in County Fermanagh. The repeater will be situated in County Fermanagh. 145.7375

N2NOV returns for another visit.
Charles J. Hargrove, N2NOV is the well-known EmerComm lead in New York and has been involved in a number of emergencies including the WTC amateur radio response. Charles and his wife Karen, N2ZYF will be in Ireland again from March 16th to the 24th.
This visit will bring them to the Dublin and New Ross areas while working on their genealogy on the Freaney family. Charles has enquired about any club meetings or testing / exam sessions that may be held during his visit, as they plan to relocate to Ireland in the future.
Special Event Station
The special event station of the Eddystone User Group will air the calls GX3EUG / GX7EUG on 80m /40m on Sunday March 1st 2009 from the site of the former WW2 RAF base at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire.
The site is due to be developed shortly into a vast industrial estate.
AREN Net
Nets are scheduled for the 7th and 21st of the month at 7.30pm It is envisaged that the net on the 21st of the Month will be a digital mode training net. Members without email access should contact John, EI7IG at 0868167310 for more details.
Dxpedition requires operators
DXpedition members to Ogliuga Island, located about 80 miles West from Adak, Alaska. Have a quote from 100ft charter vessel, up to 8 people can be taken on board. Estimated dates: 2nd part of July- 1st week of August 2009.

WAAB Award available
The radio club 'Rio de la Plata' began issuing the W.A.A.B. (Worked Argentine Antarctic Bases) to radio amateurs and SWLs as of April 1st, 2008.
To get the award the applicants must show they have worked and confirmed by QSL cards, at least 3 different Argentine Antarctic Bases. Contacts can go back as far as November 9, 2001.
Kerry Amateur Radio Group
The Kerry Amateur Radio Group, Ei1KARG have commenced their portable ops this weekend with a trip to "the Top of the Coom", near Ballyvourney, on the Cork/Kerry border.
This is the highest pub in Ireland at 1033ft above sea level. WAI ref is W17, and maidenhead square ref is IO51IV. Operations commenced at approx 9.30am on several bands.
South Eastern Amateur Radio Group
The Annual General Meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group took place on Monday last, the 23rd of February 2009. The meeting was addressed by outgoing chairperson, John McCarthy EI8JA and an overview of the clubs activities in 2008 were given by outgoing secretary, Mark Wall EI7IS and Michael Hoban EI5DCB highlighted the clubs finances.
The following committee were elected for the coming year
Chairperson is Francis Lenane, EI5GOB. Vice Chairperson is Nicky Madigan, EI3JB. Secretary is Declan Fitzgerald, EI5GRB and Treasurer is Michael Hoban, EI5DCB.
The Public Relations Officer is Mark Wall, EI7IS and the following officers were elected; John Ronan, EI7IG, Eddie Steadman, EI9DJB and John McCarthy, EI8JA.
Congratulations to the new committee members.
Please note that going forward, all general meetings will take place at the slightly later time of 8.30 p.m. on the last Monday of each month in the usual venue of the Roanmore Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford.
Tipperary Amateur Radio Group
The next monthly meeting of the Tipperary Amatuer Radio Group will take place on Thursday next the 5th of March in Raheen House Hotel, Raheen Road ,Clonmel at 8.00pm all are welcome
Cork Radio Club
The Annual General Meeting of the Cork Radio Club will be held in the Club premises at Assumption Road, Cork City, on Monday the 9th of March 2009.
The meeting will commence at 21.00.
Rallies
Rallies during March include the Radio Hobbies and Electronics Fair in the Limerick Radisson SAS Hotel on Sunday 8th March, The Lagan Valley Amateur Radio Society Rally in Hillsborough, Co. Down on Saturday 14th March and the Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club Rally in Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh on Sunday 29th March.
