IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday June 25th 2006

South Dublin Radio Club

Members of South Dublin Radio Club were in Co. Wicklow last weekend to try out a number of new antenna designs. With the co-operation of a number of overseas stations, on-air comparisons were carried out between phased vertical antennas and standard dipole-type antennas. The results of this experiment will be used in developing antennas for the forthcoming IOTA contest.

South Dublin Radio Club are carrying out Theory classes every Tuesday between 8.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. in the Marian Community Centre, Marian Road, Tempelogue. The classes are run on an ongoing basis with an informal structure and anyone interested in radio are welcome to drop in at any time.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will take place on Thursday next the 29th June in Raheen House Clonmel at 8.30 p.m. sharp.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Club

The next general meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place on Wednesday the 28th of June at 8.00 p.m. in the Roanmore Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford. All are welcome. Please note that anyone wishing to renew membership or become a member of the club for the first time that membership must be fully paid up by Friday the 30th of June.

Paddy, EI7GK will be QRV from his daughter's house in Mexico for the month of July using the call XE1/EI7GK on 14.268 MHz SSB. The best times for propagation between EI and Mexico is early morning between 06.00 and 08.00 local time. He will also call in to the Irish Hour on Sundays on 21.317 MHz. between 17.00 & 18.00 local time. He will be delighted to work EI & GI stations and will be keen to work EJ stations on the IOTA contest weekend.

Limerick Radio Club

Members of the Limerick Radio Club are QRV as EI60LRC until the end of the year to mark 60 years of the club. Activity is on 80 to 10 metres. QSL is via EI8EM.

Bandplan Changes

The Regulator in New Zealand MED has announced details of the new General User Radio Licence for Amateur Radio Operators that will come into effect from 1st July.

Bandplan changes have also been announced recently in Spain where all licenses will now have the same privelage and secondary use of the 6 metre band has been granted. The Netherlands have gained the 7.1 to 7.2 MHz portion of the 40 metre band and radio amateurs in Thailand have gained permission to use the WARC bands on a temporary basis.

Mass Amateur Satellite Launch

Due to technical problems the launch of the 13 Amateur CubeSats scheduled for the 28th of June has been postponed until the 26th of July.

Dates for Your Diary

The next Radio Theory Examination will take place on Wednesday the 28th of June 2006. It will take place in the ComReg offices at Abbey Court, Irish Life Centre, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1 commencing at 2 p.m.

The VHF/UHF Field Day will take place over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of July 2006.

IOTA will take place from 1200 UTC on Saturday the 29th of July to 1200 UTC on Sunday the 30th of July.

The Autumn Leg of the 2 metre counties contest will take place on the 27th of August.

The Blarney Rally will take place on September the 24th 2006.
