SSB Field Day
SSB Field Day will be held this year on September 4th and 5th and it is hoped to hold it centrally once again at Garbally Park in Ballinasloe. This year, open section stations will be located off site but still in the immediate vicinity of Ballinasloe. Intending entrants should contact the Contest Manager, Noel EI2JC as soon as possible. This of course does not prevent entrants setting up and operating in their own localities. In conjunction with Field Day, experimenters are invited to attend a caravan and camping rally at the same venue. Anyone interested should contact Dave EI4BZ for more information.
Shannon Basin Radio Club
The Shannon Basin Radio Club are looking forward to hosting the SSB Field Day in Garbally College, Ballinasloe, Co Galway for the second year in succession, and are hoping that it will be bigger and better than last year. Garbally College is situated on the Galway road leaving Ballinasloe to the West, 12 miles from Athlone and nesled in 310 acres of prime Agricultural land, and the reidence of Niall EI4CF.
Last year a total of 7 clubs participated in the field day and it is hoped that this years turn out will be better. The Geographical location of Garbally College with its superb scenic estate makes it an ideal week end break away for all the family and radio lovers, and ideal for those who would like to Tent out or enjoy the comfort of a Caravan or Home etc, all the necessary facilities are available including toilets, showers and tea making facilities.
It is hoped that on Saturday night, weather permitting or not, the Shannon Basin Radio Club will put on a BBQ for all, and who knows a little bit of a Sing Song.
2 Metre Counties Contest
The Autumn leg of the 2 metre EI Counties Contest will take place between 2.00 and 4.00 p.m. (local time) on Sunday the 29th of August 2004. It is hoped that a good number of stations are active for the event.
Olympic Games Special Callsigns
Radio amateurs/experimenters visiting Greece this can use special callsigns issued to mark the Olympic Games. From the 1st of August until the 15th of September visiting amateurs from CEPT countries may use the special prefix J42004 prefix. South Eastern Amateur Radio Group
The Waterford City 70cm repeater (EI2WRC) on RB11 is currently off air for maintenance. Check www.searg.com for the latest information.
The next general meeting of the group will take place on Wednesday the 25th of August at 8.00 p.m. in the usual venue of Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford. The group will discuss plans for participation in the Autumn leg of the EI Counties Contest in which SEARG will again operate from White Mountain, Co. Wexford.
Mayo Radio Experimenter Network
The Mayo radio Experimenters rally will be held in the Belmont Hotel, Knock on Sunday November the 21st. Doors open at 11.30 a.m.
Most of the usual large number of national and local traders have confirmed their attendance again this year. The rally will feature exhibitions and demonstrations and the usual large and varied Bring & Buy section.
4 Metres
The 4 metre activity night takes place on the first Tuesday of each month, the next one being on the 7th of September next. Note also that a 4 metre simplexer is currently on test in North Cork. It's frequency is 70.350 MHz.
A 4 metre beacon using the callsign GB3WSX is active on 70.007 MHz. The beacon is located in Yeovil, Somerset.
