Inaugural International DX Dinner

The first ever International DX Dinner, hosted by the Mayo Radio Experimenters Network, was held in The Belmont Hotel, Knock on Friday May the 30th. The guests of honour were Dr. Rob Mannion, Editor of Practical Wireless, and Martin and Ann Hilmes of the Wolfsburg club in Germany.

In her speech, Club Chairperson, Frances Taheny, EI5J, welcomed the guests and thanked them for their attendance, which proved that the hobby of amateur radio unites all countries of the world.

Rob Mannion a regular visitor to Ireland and holder of the Irish Call sign EI5IW, thanked the people of Ireland for the continuous hospitality extended to him on each visit. He added that he was always delighted to visit the Mayo club, clearly one of the most active on the island, and hoped to return for the 2003 Mayo Rally on Sunday November the 16th.

The DX Dinner, which the club plans to hold annually, is part of the impressive programme of activities undertaken by the Mayo Radio Experimenters, and was organised by Padraic Baynes EI9JA and John Corless, EI7IQ.


EI5HAM

The Blind and Disabled Group EI5HAM have finished meetings and classes at St. Joseph's Drumcondra Dublin until September also the Net on 145.575 is discontinued.

In the meantime any inquiries about the Groups activities should be addressed c/o the IRTS AT PO Box 462, Dublin 9.


Antrim and District Amateur Radio Society

The 80 metre ARDF Event will take place on Saturday the 14th of June 2003 at the Crawfordsburn Scout Centre, Crawfordsburn Estate, Helen's Bay, County Down.


Limerick Radio Club

The Limerick Radio Club would like to thank all their members for their support during the past year. The club has now stopped meeting for the summer months. Meetings will resume in September.

There is a committee meeting on Thursday 12th June. The venue is as usual the QTH of EI2AW at 1930 hrs. On the agenda will be their rally in 2004 which will be held on March 7th in the Greenhills Hotel, Limerick. Some decisions need to be made on the night so all committee members must be in attendance.


Irishwan

Irishwan, the licence exempt wireless networking group, is having it's second National conference in Limerick on Saturday the 28th of June at The Two Mile Inn on the Ennis Road. As well as talks on wireless computer networking there will also be commercial stands and a bring and buy stall.

Talks planned include building wireless computer links, sharing broadband internet connections and wireless security. There will also be representatives from the Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Limerick, Cork and Galway Irishwan clubs.

This is an ideal event for those interested in technology and who are looking for a way to get cheaper internet access by using wireless.

Doors open at noon and talks will take place all afternoon until 6 p.m. Entry is 5 Euro and more details are on the Irishwan web site www.irishwan.org


Mayo REN

Mayo REN Rally Director, Padraic Baynes Snr. EI9JA, has announced that the 2003 Mayo Rally will be held on Sunday November the 16th in The Belmont Hotel, Knock, with doors opening at 11.00 a.m. Listeners will remember the success of the first Mayo rally last year, and the club are already hard at work to ensure a repeat success.


Iceland

Paddy EI7GK will be QRV from Reykjavik with the call sign TF3/EI7GK/P from the 23rd of June to the 8th of July 2003. Listen out for him on the worked all Ireland frequency 14.268 MHz and the IOTA frequency 14.260 MHz as well as 21.317 and 7.068 MHz.

Paddy will be delighted to work any EI, GI or MI stations and offer in a pile up calls for "the EI station only" Paddy has previously operated from Mexico, Spain, France, the UK, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and Monaco.


AREN

The AREN NET operates in Cork on the first Tuesday of each month on 145.525 MHz and on 7.043 MHz plus or minus at 2130 hrs local time. Operators who are interested in joining AREN are invited to contact John Ketch, EI2GN at the Irish Radio Transmitters Society.
