This year, St. Patrick's Day falls on a Monday so the annual EI Activity Day is being extended to a three day event to be held from Saturday to Monday inclusive. EI stations are still in great demand by stations trying complete their Worked EI Counties Award and many overseas stations are also collecting Worked All Ireland Squares. We look forward to the usual high level of activity from EI over this weekend. Activity from some of the rarer counties would be especially welcome.

The Annual General Meeting of South Dublin Radio Club takes place at the club QTH at Marian Road, Rathfarnham on Tuesday fortnight 25th February, at 8.00 pm. This is an important event in the club's calendar, and all members are requested to attend.

Cork Radio Club

Cork Radio Club welcomes back Ingo Stengel DH5ST who is studying at the Cork Institute of Technology. He was here before and was very active from his mobile station. Attendance at the weekly meetings has been high in recent weeks where the club station has been very active on CW.

East Cork Group

The Annual General Meeting of the East Cork group will be held at Poer Head on Monday next February the 10th. Members have been very active in recent contests with Jerry EI6BT doing well in the CQWW CW Top Band Contest and Jeremy EI5GM making a good score in the UBA SSB test despite poor conditions. Members of the group will be active in the forthcoming ARRL contests and in the CQWW SSB Top band Contest.

Contests in the coming weeks

The main contest next weekend is the ARRL CW contest which will be held on the 15th and 16th over 48 hours from midnight Friday. In this one, the exchange is signal report plus your power output, i.e. 5991100. You only work U.S. and Canadian stations and their exchange will be signal report plus their state, i.e. 599 New York. We do have a geographical advantage over our European brethren in this one and in last years event, Dave EI4BZ finished world first on 10 metres.

The SSB leg of this contest takes place two weeks later on March 1st and 2nd. The weekend after next is a busy one for both SSB and CW contesters. The CQWW SSB 160m contest is on February the 22nd and 23rd together with the REF SBB and the UBA CW. The E.E.C. trophy for the leading E.C. station in the UBA contest has been won twice from EI in the past, both times on SSB. Will we have a CW winner?
