IRTS Awards Committee
It is required to have all trophies returned in good time to have any engraving or repairs done which may have been overlooked over the years, due to trophies being returned late or at the last minute.
You may wish to have your call sign engraved on the trophy, as is the custom, this should be on a miniature shield or on the silver band on the trophy base (not on the silverware).
This may seem like an early call, but in fact it takes some time to collect all the trophies, effect any necessary minor repairs and bring up to date any engraving which was missed over the years due to late returns.
Trophies may be returned to any IRTS Committee Member as soon as possible, or by parcel post to Peter EI4HX before the 14th of February. Thank you for your co operation, and best of luck in 2003.
Limerick Radio CLub
The Limerick Radio Club resumed its monthly meetings on Thursday the 9th of January last at the usual venue of the Limerick Institute of Technology, Moylish at 7.30 p.m.
LRC would like to announce that the Rally will be held on the 9th of March next. The venue is the Greenhills Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick. Doors open at 11.30 a.m. and admission is €5.00. This is promised to be the clubs best rally yet. Linear Amp UK have confirmed that they will be attending the rally and ICOM UK are to confirm their presence shortly. More details will be available soon.
Squares Table 2002
Could everybody send their Squares table 2002 updates as soon as possible to Joe EI3IX. Some have already sent in their final totals which should be up on EI7GL's website pretty soon.
Contest & DX News
KM1E is currently QRV from the Bahamas as C6AGN on 160 to 6 metres until the 4th of March.
8N1OGA will be QRV until January the 31st from the rare DXCC entity of the Ogasawara Islands to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Japan Amateur Radio League.
4 and 6 Metre Shields
Regarding the EI7IQ 4 Meter & EI7IQ 6 meter Shields 2002. These two Shields are up for grabs for activity during the 2002 calendar year. Please submit your logs to Noel Walsh (IRTS Contest Manager), ei2jc@hotmail.com.
Your log or logs should include the list of unique stations worked times the number of DXCC countries worked times Maidenhead locators worked, ie IO53, IO54 etc. This is the total number of points to be claimed. All simplex contacts on all legal modes made between January the 1st 2002 and December the 31st 2002 are valid. Repeater contacts do not count.
Unique station, means you can only claim points for a particular station once, this is unless you work the same station in a different square /P or /M.
Please note that logs for the 4 meter & 6 meter Shields should not be mixed as these are two seperate awards.
Tipperary Amateur Radio Group
At a recent committee meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group John Ronan EI7IG was co-opted as Group secretary for 2003. The group would like to thank Noel Walsh EI2JC for his service as Group secretary and club representative at I.R.T.S. level for the past 2 years. The next meeting of the group will be on the Thursday the 6th of February in the Princess bar Upper Irishtown, Clonmel.
ARRL Concludes Its 5 MHz Experiments
The ARRL has now concluded the 5 MHz experiment, and is currently awaiting a decision from the FCC regarding the future of the new band. With the experimental WA2XSY licence having demonstrated the practicality of the USA 5 MHz allocation, the ARRL allowed the licence to expire on the 1st of January.
