Morse Testing

A Morse Testing session has been arranged for Coolmine Community School, Dublin on Saturday the 9th of November at 11.30 a.m. Anybody interested in taking this test, which will be at the new standard of 5 words per minute, should register as soon as possible with Sean Donelan EI4GK, phone number 01 2821420 or e-mail seandonelan@indigo.ie. The fee for the test is €12.70 and candidates are reminded that they also need to provide photo ID - preferably Passport or Drivers Licence.


Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The Annual General Meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group takes place on Thursday the 7th of November in Raheen House Hotel Clonmel. The meeting commences at 8 p.m. The usual good attendance is requested for this important meeting.

Please note that the AGM is a closed meeting for current members only. Visitors and friends are most welcome to join us at our regular monthly meetings which take on the first Thursday of every month in Raheen House, Clonmel.


EI Counties Contest (Autumn Leg)

The High Power Fixed section was won by Hugh O'Donnell EI2HI operating from Cork and working 18 counties with 57 QSO's giving a total of 3816 points. In second place was Mark Boothman EI9IB forking from Co. Kildare and scoring 3360 points. In third place was Brendan Kavanagh EI8IB, operating from Dublin and scoring a total of 630 points.

In the High Power Portable Section, South Dublin Radio Club EI2SDR operating from Co. Laois scored 6138 points. In second place was Ray Harbison GI3PDN operating from Co. Antrim scoring 3808 points.

In the low power fixed section, the winner was Thos Caffrey EI2JD operating from Co. Louth and scoring 3042 points. In second place was Nicky Mullaly EI9JF operating from Co. Kerry with a score of 1988 points and in third place was Paul Norris EI3ENB operating from Co. Kilkenny scoring 1452 points.

Slievenamon Shield

Congratulations to Hugh O'Donnell EI2HI for his success in the Slievenamon Shield with achieved 114 points. Runners up were, Gerry Molloy EI5HJ, Eamonn Kavanagh EI3FFB and Joe Fadden EI3IX.


VHF News

A group of radio amateurs from Germany are going to be QRV during the Leonid meteor shower in November from both sides of the Atlantic ocean. Harry, DL2DAO, will join a group of Canadian radio at Cabot Tower, Newfoundland and Volker, DL5DAW, and Nico, DK5DQ, will travel to southwest Ireland to set up their equipment in IO41 or IO42. The aim of the test is to cross the

North Atlantic on 144 MHz on meteorscatter using the FSK441 mode during the expected peaks with meteor-storm conditions on the 19th of November. Before and after this event both stations will be available for "local" meteorscatter.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

Night classes will commence within the next two weeks in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. If you are interested in doing the the course and have not yet registered your interest, please contact Mark on 087-6302026 or e-mail cyberis@vodafone.ie.
