Theory Examination

A theory examination, hosted by the North Dublin Radio Club, has been provisionally fixed for Wednesday April the 15th at 1400 at St. Brendan's parish Hall in Coolock Village in Dublin 5. Persons wishing to sit the examination should make contact with Tony Fay EI6EQB on 087-2047008 as soon as possible. Advance notice is required to allow facilities be organised.

2 Metre Counties Contest

Last Monday's 2 Metre Counties Contest was very well supported with much more than the usual number of portable stations out and about. Some very high scores were heard. Stations heard on the day were: EI2SDR/p South Dublin Radio Club in County Laois. EI2WRC/p South Eastern Amateur Radio Group in County Kilkenny, EI2SBC/p Shannon Basin Radio Club in County Leitrim, EI7DAR Dundalk Radio Club in County Louth and EI7TRG/p Tipperary Amateur Radio Group in County Tipperary.

Other portables heard were: EI2IJ/m in County Roscommon, EI2JF/p in County Carlow, EI3IX/p in County Mayo, EI4BZ/p in County Offaly, EI4HX/p in County Louth, EI5IO/p in County Cork, EI6HB/p in County Waterford, EI6IB/p in County Leitrim, EI6IW/p in County Tipperary, EI2JC in County Tipperary, EI7GK/p in County Limerick, EI7GN/p in County Westmeath, EI8BEB/p in County Sligo, EI9EJ/p in County Kerry and EI0CZ/p in County Tipperary.


This year's Jamboree on the Air will take place on the 19th and 20th of October. In order to maximise participation the 132nd Bayside Scout Unit will be publicising the event at the Scouting Ireland Nation Council on Saturday and Sunday May the 11th and 12th.

In order that Units interested in participating in JOTA can be put in touch with clubs and individuals interested in setting up stations for the event, any club or individual who are willing to assist can contact the Bayside Scout Troop at or Sean O'Suilleabhain at or 087-232 6994 by May 10th in order that contact details may be passed on.

Worked All Mayo

Dermot Adams EI7IX, is the most recent recipient Worked All Mayo Awards. Dermot has claimed Basic, Bronze and Silver Awards, for 10, 25 and 50 of the 93 Mayo Squares. Dermot is IRTS QSL Manager for 0, 1 and 7 series calls.

WEIC Awards

The following WEIC awards were issued recently. Don Redhead G4KXW worked 26 counties and was issued award number 74. Award number 75 was issued to Vincent Valley RS88763/1132 who worked 20 counties.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The next general meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place at 8.00 p.m. on Wednesday the 24th of April in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford. Members are asked to attend and visitors are welcome.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group is to provide an emergency communication service for the Aherlow Failte Group in their annual hill walking festival on April 13th & 14th. This local event in Tipperary has been increasing in popularity over the last number of years with in excess of 200 people participating over a 2 day walking festival on the Galtee Mountains. TARG has supported this event for the last 3 years and the event has proved to be both enjoyable and rewarding for the Group. This year Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will have approx. 10 members operating portable on the Galtee Mountains over the 2 days and EI7TRG/P will be operated from the base of the Galtees providing direct link to the emergency services.

ARRL News Release - DXCC Accepting P5/4L4FN Contacts Since early November 2001, Edisher Giorgadze, 4L4FN, a Georgian citizen employed by the United Nations World Food Program, has been active as P5/4L4FN in Pyongyang, DPRK.

"The ARRL has now received adequate evidence that the operation by Mr. Giorgadze is being conducted with the knowledge and approval of telecommunications officials in Pyongyang. At the present time, this approval is limited to SSB operation. The ARRL Awards Committee has met and concurred that the operation should be accredited. As a result, the ARRL have announced that with immediate effect, the DXCC Branch will accept SSB contacts with P5/4L4FN for DXCC credit. For further information please contact Wayne Mills, N7NG (
