Autumn Counties Contest Results

Seventeen logs were received for the autumn leg of the

IRTS 2 Metre Counties Contest with many other participants not getting around to submitting their logs.

Tipperary Radio Group EI7TRG operated by EI6FRB and EI6FOB won the high power portable section and their score of 4746 points made up of 67 QSOs and 21 counties was the highest score achieved in all sections.

Congratulations to both operators on their achievement. It’s nice to see two of the newer licensees doing so well.

The Galway VHF Group EI4ALE was second and Paul EI6FE finished third in this section.

In the low power portable section Peter Grant EI4HX once again finished first with Denis EI6HB and Brendan EI8IB in second and third places.

The high power fixed section was won by Tommy EI2IT with David EI4IX and John EI9IO second and third.

Paul EI3ENB was the winner of the low power fixed section with Barry EI2IO in second place.

The FM only section attracted the biggest entry and it was won by the Mayo Experimenters Network EI7MRE operated by EI5IX and EI6FWB.

The runner up was Sean EI4IP followed by Joe EI54FV, Padraig EI7GK, Hugh EI2HI and Liam EI7FE.

Congratulations to all participants especially section winners. Detailed scores will appear in the coming issue of Echo Ireland.

The trophies will be presented at the IRTS AGM in April.


Coolmine Rally

The Phoenix Amateur Radio Club will hold their annual rally on Sunday next February the 6th at the Coolmine Community School in Clonsilla in Dublin. This is a very convenient venue to get to but in case of difficulty, talk-in will be provided on S21, that is 145.525MHz.

Doors will open at 11.00 am and the admission will be £2.00.

South Dublin Radio Club

Morse classes have re-commenced in South Dublin Radio Club. This year there are five aspiring A licensees, the biggest number in recent years. Anyone else wishing to join should come along to one of the club meetings, which are on Tuesday nights from 8.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m., in the Ballyroan Community Centre, Marian Road, Rathfarnham.

Also, in South Dublin Radio news, a final reminder that the SDR Spring Challenge starts on Tuesday next, 1st February.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The Waterford 2m voice repeater, EI2WRC is currently located and operational in Waterford City. This is a temporary move and the repeater will be moved to a more permanent location in the near future.

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group is currently conducting a series of night classes leading to the Class B licence. The classes are being held at the De La Salle Centre every Monday night at 8pm and have being running since November last with a good turnout.

Millennium Callsigns

Three callsigns, EI2K, EI2MM and EI2OOO are available through the society for special events during the current year. Applications to book these callsigns should be made to Peter Grant EI4HX at QTHR.

The following are the bookings for the coming months: 16th to the 18th of March, EI2K by the Mayo Group; 17th to the 19th of March, EI2MM by the Bayside Scouts; 8th and 9th of April, EI2MM at the IRTS AGM; 2nd to the 4th June, EI2OOO by the Tir Conaill ARS; 25th to 28th July EJ2K by EI9HQ; 2nd and 3rd September, EI2K by the Mayo Group; 20th to 23nd October, EI2MM by the Bayside Scouts and finally 28th and 29th October, EI2K by the Mayo Group.

AS you can see there are plenty of prime dates available so get your application in as soon as possible.


Dates for your Diary

An EI activity weekend is being held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March the 17th to the 19th. We need as many counties as possible active.

The Limerick Radio Club will hold their annual rally on Sunday the 26th of March 2000 in the Limerick Inn Hotel.

The IRTS AGM will be held in The Four Seasons Hotel on Monaghan over the weekend of April the 8th and 9th.

The Worked All Ireland Island Activity weekend will be held over the third weekend in June, that’s the 17th and 18th.
