Limerick Radio Club

At the last club meeting Paul EI6FE gave a talk on Digital Terestial Television (DTT). He gave an overview on video compression techniques, digital modulation and modern microwave link networks including the new co-channel systems. He would like to continue in the new year with a series of talks delving deeper into each subject.

The next meeting of Limerick Radio Club will be held on the first Thursday of December which is the 2nd and not the usual second Thursday.

At this meeting LRC will hold its annual Christmas Quiz run by Liam EI4GB and Pat EI9GY. A good night is assured and kick off is at 1930 hours sharp.

The theory classes in Limerick are proceeding with 13 students and Mike EI2IX is very pleased with the progress being made to date. Brendan EI0CZ in conjunction with Mike is running Morse classes on the same night at the same venue.

Anybody interested in learning CW please contact any member of LRC who will point them in the right direction.

LRC would also like to thank Zed EI4HG for introducing some of the new students to LRC.

Finally please remember that the next meeting of LRC is on the First Thursday of December and not the second Thursday. This change is only for the month of December.

Contests

Next weekend it is the turn of the CW operators to work some DX as the CQ World Wide DX Contest is being held over forty eight hours. If conditions are as good as they were for the SSB leg a few weeks ago everybody should really enjoy themselves.

Ten metres should be very good again and many new licensees will have their first opportunity to really work some DX on this band.

The contest starts at midnight on Friday night and runs until midnight on Sunday. The exchange is signal report and CQ Zone which in our case is Zone 14.

Looking a little further ahead, in two weeks time we have the ARRL 160m contest and the week after that we will have the ARRL 10m contest on December the 11th and 12th.

This will be the last chance before the year ends to improve your score in the Millennium DX Marathon promoted by the WestNet group.
