Counties Contest

A one-hour IRTS 80 metres Counties Contest takes place at 20:00 on Tuesday next, 21st February. There are SSB Only and mixed-mode SSB/CW sections, with double points for CW QSOs in the mixed-mode section. See www.irts.ie/contests for permitted frequencies and other rules. This short evening contest provides a great opportunity for anyone new to contesting to explore the competitive side of amateur radio.


Annual General Meeting 2017, diary date

A date for your diary: the 85th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society will be hosted by the Dundalk Amateur Radio Society over the weekend of 8/9 April 2017, in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Green Park, Dundalk. AGM Dinner tickets are now available to order from www.irts.ie/agm . The website has also been updated will full details about the 2017 IRTS AGM.

IRTS Awards Nominations

Nominations are being sought for "Awards for Services to the Society or to Amateur Radio" and "Awards to IRTS members for other Achievements.” Submissions are welcome and should be sent to Jim Holohan EI4HH, Awards Manager. Email holohaj2 /at/ hotmail.com.


Avondhu Radio Club

The Avondhu Radio Club held its AGM on February the 5th. One highlight from 2016 was the ARRL DX SSB Contest. EI1E entered as a multi-op low power entry, achieving 1st Ire, 2nd EU, 3rd DX.

Newly appointed officers are; Hans Krauss EI9GRB (Chairman), Joe Cherry EI7HIB (Secretary), Denis O'Flaherty EI4KH (Treasurer), Gerard Scannell EI5KF (QSL Manager).


Limerick Radio Club

The Limerick Radio Club Rally will take place on Sunday 12th March 2017 in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick. Doors open at 11am. Tables are free and you are asked to contact Michael EI2IX on michaelkingston /at/ eircom.net . Please look up the website www.limerickadioclub.com


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2017 AGM of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday 27th February at 8pm sharp. All members are asked to attend. New members or anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio or the group are also very welcome to attend. www.searg.ie


DX News

Elvira IV3FSG will be in Burkina Faso from 17th February until 13th March. She will sign XT2SE on CW, SSB and Digital. QSL Manager is IK3GES.

The well-known travellers Lot DJ7ZG and Babs DL7AFS are due to operate from Antigua as V21ZG from 18th February until 26th March. They will be on SSB on all bands 80m to 6m including 60m. Logs will be uploaded to Logbook of The World and QSLs can be obtained through Club Log OQRS.

Mike W0MU and Jonathan G0DVJ will be QRV from Placencia in Belize until 28th February. They are using the callsigns V31MU and V31DV and can be found on CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL to the home calls.

Jonathan KK7PW will be in Uganda from 21st February until 7th March. He has been issued with the callsign 5X1O and will be on the air early mornings/ late evenings on 40, 20, 15 and 10m on CW, SSB and Digital. His QSL Manager is EA5GL.


RSGB Region 8 Quiz Challenge

The RSGB Region 8 Quiz Challenge will take place on Friday 24th March at Mossley Hockey Club, Newtownabbey.

Teams may be a maximum of 6 people with friends and family welcome to join the battle of the brains to be crowned Perpetual Trophy Winners 2017. Contact Philip MI0MSO on (0044) (0) 7849 025760.

Also, St Patricks Day is nearly upon us. So why not get on air and go green for fun.

The St Patrick Award follows the worldwide celebrations from the 16th to the 18th March with stations already registered from across the globe as award stations.

EI DX Group

Members of the EI DX Group are pleased to announce details of their forthcoming DXpedition to Nepal. March 8th to 20th will see this 11 man, all Echo India team run up to 5 stations from 80 metres through 10 metres on CW, SSB & Digital.

Nepal is currently number 91 Most Wanted DXCC in the world and an amazing number 31 most wanted in North America. Operating from a QTH at 5,600' above sea level, the team are looking forward to intense pile-ups.
