Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday, 27th November in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Tuesday 11th November. Three Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are now available on the Downloads section of the website at www.irts.ie/downloads under Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate. These reports contain very useful information for anyone studying for the Licence Examination


80m Contest on Wednesday.

Next Wednesday 24th September, the first of a series of monthly 1-hour 80m contests takes place from 2000-2100 GMT - that's 9 - 10pm local time. These contests are organized by the UK and Ireland Contest Club, UKEICC.

For September the mode is CW, and the October event will be SSB. The exchange is your 4-character locator square, for example IO63, and points are based on distance. SD by EI5DI supports these contests and is free from ei5di.com. For other loggers, use the Stew Perry Contest template.

There's a fresh approach to adjudication in that entries have to be uploaded within 1 hour of the end of the contest,and the results will be published online within the following hour. Everyone can take part - the Rules and log-upload pages are at ukeicc.com.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford is this year celebrating its 1100th birthday. In line with the many festivities and events that will be run to celebrate the anniversary, The South Eastern Amateur Group are currently activating the special event call-sign EI1100WD until the end of the year from various locations. Activity has been on various bands and modes (mainly HF) Many pile up’s have been worked by members using the special call. If you wish to get EI1100WD in the log activation details will be posted on www.searg.com and also on the SEARG Facebook page.

The September meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday the 29th of September at 8.30 p.m. This meeting will be preceded by a committee at 8.00 p.m. sharp. New members and anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio are very welcome to attend.

Limerick Radio Club

Limerick Radio Club has recently ported IRLP from a desktop PC on to a Raspberry Pi . It went live on Tuesday 16th September. Running the PC for 24 hours for 365 days was costing, on a rough calculation, over €290 annually. Pi IRLP will be a lot less. The new allocated node number is 5880. West Tyrone Amateur Radio Club

The venue for next FOUNDATION course will be in the Technology Centre, Spillers Place, Omagh. The course will be held on two concentrative Saturday’s, 25th October and 1st November 2014 followed by an evening exam on the 4th November 2014. It is open to both male and females of all ages (facilities are available for people who have a disability) Complete course materials will be provided. There is a fee of £50.00 which covers the full course and a small exam. You can download an application form from the WTARC website, www.wtarc.net . Please send completed forms to the address provided. Students will be required to attend the club monthly meeting on 7th October 2014 to register and sign up for the course. You will be contacted in relation to the registration.


DX News

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the OH-DX-RING Juha OH9MM and Martti OH2BH will put Market Reef on the air. The callsign will be OJ0AM and they hope to be QRV from 20 – 27 September.

Sei JA7LU and Hiro JA2VWG will operate from Timor Leste from 22 – 29 September. Callsigns will be 4W6LU and 4W6DD and QSLs go via the home calls.

Prefix hunters should look out for LZ14IARU which is active from now until 26 September from the IARU Region 1 Conference. QSLs are OK via the LZ bureau.

Another IARU special event station will be on the air from France using the callsign TM89IARU. Dates are 20 – 29 September.
